This article presents a new design of flow-orientation device for the study of bio-macromolecules, including DNA and protein complexes, as well as aggregates such as amyloid fibrils and liposome membranes, using Linear Dichroism (LD) spectroscopy. The design provides a number of technical advantages that should make the device inexpensive to manufacture, easier to use and more reliable than existing techniques. The degree of orientation achieved is of the same order of magnitude as that of the commonly used concentric cylinders Couette flow cell, however, since the device exploits a set of flat strain-free quartz plates, a number of problems associated with refraction and birefringence of light are eliminated, increasing the sensitivity and accuracy of measurement. The device provides similar shear rates to those of the Couette cell but is superior in that the shear rate is constant across the gap. Other major advantages of the design is the possibility to change parts and vary sample volume and path length easily and at a low cost.

Light-matter interaction simultaneously alters both the original material and incident light. Light not only reveals material details but also activates coupling mechanisms. The coupling has been demonstrated mechanically, for instance, through the patterning of metallic antennas, resulting in the emergence of plasmonic quasiparticles and enabling wavefront engineering of light via the generalized Snell's law.

Several reports about infinite-layer nickelate thin films suggest that the superconducting critical temperature versus chemical doping phase diagram has a dome-like shape, similar to cuprates. Here, a highly reproducible superconducting state in undoped PrNiO thin films grown on SrTiO are demonstrated. Scanning transmission electron microscopy measurements show coherent infinite-layer phase with no visible stacking-fault defects, an overall high structural quality where possible unintentional chemical doping or interstitial oxygen, if present, sum well below the measurable threshold of the technique.

Precise detection and classification of chiral enantiomers are essential for pharmaceutical development and disease diagnosis. Nanophotonics provides a promising approach by enhancing light-matter interaction and detecting weak intrinsic chiroptical signals. However, the use of separate platforms for molecular concentration detection and chiral identification often impedes system integration.

Liver fibrosis represents a progressive pathological condition that can culminate in severe hepatic dysfunction, potentially advancing to cirrhosis and liver cancer. The extent of liver fibrosis is intrinsically associated with the quantity of collagen fibers. Although liver biopsy and ultrasound imaging are standard diagnostic tools, their application is constrained by risks of significant complications and variability in different investigators, respectively.

Tin monochalcogenides SnS and SnSe, belonging to a family of Van der Waals crystals isoelectronic to black phosphorus, are known as environmentally friendly materials promising for thermoelectric conversion applications. However, they exhibit other desired functionalities, such as intrinsic linear dichroism of the optical and electronic properties originating from strongly anisotropic orthorhombic crystal structures. This property makes them perfect candidates for polarization-sensitive photodetectors working in near-infrared spectral range.
