Morphological mouse phenotyping plays a pivotal role in the translational setting and even more in the area of auditory research, where mouse is a central model organism due to the evolutionary genetic relationship and morpho-functional analogies with the human auditory system. However, some results obtained in murine models cannot be translated to humans due to the inadequate description of experimental conditions underlying poor reproducibility. We approach the characterization of the aging process of the mouse cochlea in animals up to 18 months of age belonging to two of the most used outbred (CD1) and inbred (C57BL/6N) strains.

Introduction: The thyroid gland has a significant impact on the morphofunctional state of the organs of the female reproductive system, the regulation of the ovarian-menstrual cycle, as well as the age-related decline of the generative and endocrine function of the ovaries.

Material And Methods: The study involved 102 women aged 49-62 years, who were divided into 2 groups. Group I included 54 patients who suffered from manifestations of the menopausal syndrome, and the control group comprised 48 patients whose menopausal period proceeded physiologically.

Pomegranate ( L.) Extract Effects on Inflammaging.

Molecules

September 2024

Unit and School of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, University of Messina, 98125 Messina, Italy.

Article Synopsis
  • Pomegranate is rich in nutrients, including organic acids, vitamins, and bioactive compounds like polyphenols, which confer antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • The fruit is associated with potential therapeutic benefits, particularly in combatting age-related issues like "inflammaging," but current research mainly focuses on neurodegenerative and skin diseases.
  • Future studies are needed, particularly human trials, to validate its effectiveness and explore pomegranate extracts as complementary therapies for chronic conditions and skin disorders.

Epidemiological Changes in Transthyretin Cardiac Amyloidosis: Evidence from In Vivo Data and Autoptic Series.

Cardiac amyloidosis is an infiltrative disease that causes progressive myocardial impairment secondary to amyloid fibril deposition in the extracellular space of the myocardium. Many amyloid precursors, including transthyretin protein, are known to determine cardiac damage by aggregating and precipitating in cardiac tissue. Transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis may be either caused by rare genetic mutations of the transthyretin gene in the hereditary variant, or may arise as a consequence of age-related mechanisms in the acquired form.

Cold exposure, especially in combination with exercise, is a common procedure to fortify the body. However, its effects in old age are poorly understood. Using the homeostasis stability coefficient as an indicator, the body response to a 20-min swim in cold water was for the first time studied comprehensively in old and young Wistar rats.
