Letters-to-the-editor represent an important characteristic of scientific interchange especially because the initial peer-review may not fulfill the qualitative control of a manuscript. On the other hand, it is well known that such publications are accepted easier than regular ones and may be a gateway for authors without outstanding scientific merits to input their names in high impact factor journals. A letter-to-the-editor (intended as a commentary to one of our works) allowed us to discover a very peculiar and unexpected fact for the medical literature, worthy to be shared with the worldwide scientific community.

School built environment and children's health: a scientometric analysis.

Rev Environ Health

January 2025

School of Architecture and Design, Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China.

The school built environment is closely related to children's health, and research on this topic is increasing. However, bibliometric analyses seeking to provide a comprehensive understanding of the research landscape and key themes in the field are lacking. This study comprehensively explored the global trends and research hotspots on the associations between school built environment and children's health.

Catalytic Asymmetric Dehydrogenative Si-H/X-H Coupling toward Si-Stereogenic Silanes.

Acc Chem Res

January 2025

Shenzhen Grubbs Institute and Department of Chemistry, Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Small Molecule Drug Discovery and Synthesis, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Catalysis, Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen, Guangdong 518055, China.

ConspectusChiral organosilicon compounds bearing a Si-stereogenic center have attracted increasing attention in various scientific communities and appear to be a topic of high current relevance in modern organic chemistry, given their versatile utility as chiral building blocks, chiral reagents, chiral auxiliaries, and chiral catalysts. Historically, access to these non-natural Si-stereogenic silanes mainly relies on resolution, whereas their asymmetric synthetic methods dramatically lagged compared to their carbon counterparts. Over the past two decades, transition-metal-catalyzed desymmetrization of prochiral organosilanes has emerged as an effective tool for the synthesis of enantioenriched Si-stereogenic silanes.

Background: To reduce the mortality related to bladder cancer, efforts need to be concentrated on early detection of the disease for more effective therapeutic intervention. Strong risk factors (eg, smoking status, age, professional exposure) have been identified, and some diagnostic tools (eg, by way of cystoscopy) have been proposed. However, to date, no fully satisfactory (noninvasive, inexpensive, high-performance) solution for widespread deployment has been proposed.

Introduction: To evaluate the impact of a novel design "Star Home" on the incidence of malaria, respiratory tract infections and diarrheal diseases among children, randomly selected households in Mtwara, Tanzania were offered a free, new Star Home. Drawing on longitudinal qualitative research that accompanied the Star Homes study, this article describes the experiences of residents and the wider community of living with these buildings.

Methods: A total of four rounds of face-to-face interviews were undertaken with residents of Star Homes (n = 37), control (wattle/daub) homes (n = 21), neighboring households n = 6), community members (n = 17) and community leaders (n = 6).

Identifying the Structure of Two-Dimensional ACuO (A = Na, K, Cs) Film on Cu(111) with Atomic Resolution.

J Phys Chem Lett

January 2025

College of Chemistry, Key Laboratory of Theoretical and Computational Photochemistry, Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100875, China.

The deposition of alkali metals on oxide surfaces has garnered significant interest due to their critical role in enhancing various catalytic processes. However, the atomic-scale characterization of these structures remains elusive, owing to the complex and competing interactions among the oxygen, the alkali metals, and the metal atoms within the oxides. In this work, we grew alkali metals (Na, K, Cs) on the copper oxide films on the Cu(111) surface and found the formation of hexagonally ordered monolayer films.
