The conscious perception of simple visual stimuli can be modulated by the presence of distractors. In the motion blindness paradigm, the detection of coherent motion is impaired when task-irrelevant motion distractors are presented prior to the target. Aim of this study was to examine the feature specificity of the distractor effect. For this reason, targets were either defined by motion coherence ("motion blindness") or orientation changes ("orientation blindness"). In a series of three experiments we show that distractors have to share the feature characteristics of the target in order to reduce its detectability. However, independent inhibition sets for visual features can be activated if the targets' characteristics are ambiguous.

Enhancing the retention of recent memory traces through sleep reactivation is possible via Targeted Memory Reactivation (TMR), involving cueing learned material during post-training sleep. Evidence indicates detectable short-term microstructural changes in the brain within an hour after motor sequence learning, and post-training sleep is believed to contribute to the consolidation of these motor memories, potentially leading to enduring microstructural changes. In this study, we explored how TMR during post-training sleep affects performance gains and delayed microstructural remodeling, using both standard Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) and advanced Neurite Orientation Dispersion & Density Imaging (NODDI).

Understanding and effectively controlling molecular conformational changes are essential for developing responsive and dynamic molecular systems. Here, we report that an oriented external electric field (OEEF) is an effective catalyst for the cis-trans isomerization of stiff-stilbene, a key component of overcrowded alkene-based rotary motors. This reversible isomerization occurs under ambient conditions, is free from side reactions, and has been verified using ultraperformance liquid chromatography and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy.

This study has investigated the effects of different annealing temperatures on the microstructure, chemical composition, phase structure, and piezoelectric properties of ZnO films. The analysis focuses on how annealing temperature influences the oxygen content and the preferred c-axis (002) orientation of the films. It was found that annealing significantly increases the grain size and optimizes the columnar crystal structure, though excessive high-temperature annealing leads to structural degradation.

Artificial neural network (ANN) models have been used in the past to model surface roughness in manufacturing processes. Specifically, different parameters influence surface roughness in fused filament fabrication (FFF) processes. In addition, the characteristics of the networks have a direct impact on the performance of the models.

Azulene-1,3-bis(semicarbazone), , and azulene-1,3-bis(thiosemicarbazone), , were synthesized by the acid-catalyzed condensation reactions of semicarbazide and thiosemicarbazide, respectively, with azulene-1,3-dicarboxaldehyde in stoichiometric amounts. Compounds and were identified by high-resolution mass spectrometry and characterized by IR, H-NMR, C-NMR, and UV-vis spectroscopic techniques. Crystal structure determination of azulene-1,3-bis(thiosemicarbazone) shows that the thiosemicarbazone units exhibit a -closed conformation, with both arms oriented in the same direction and adopting an configuration with respect to the imine linkages.
