Background: Among people with cystic fibrosis (PwCF), methicillin-resistant (MRSA)-associated acute pulmonary exacerbations (APEs) have been increasing in prevalence and can cause rapid declines in lung function and increased mortality. Fortunately, since 2019, incidence has started to decline.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate if doxycycline has comparable efficacy to vancomycin for the treatment of APEs in PwCF.

Diabetic foot infections (DFIs) are a common and costly complication of diabetes. Soft tissue and bone infections in DFIs frequently lead to amputation and/or sepsis which can be costly for both the patient and the healthcare system. is the most commonly identified causative agent in DFIs, and people with diabetes may have an increased risk of infection with methicillin-resistant (MRSA).

Molecular Epidemiology of Community-Acquired Methicillin-Resistant and Clinical Characteristics of Different Sites of Infection.

Infect Drug Resist

March 2023

Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology, Beijing Institute of Respiratory Medicine and Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, People's Republic of China.

Purpose: Since community-acquired methicillin-resistant (CA-MRSA) was recognized, the molecular epidemiology of CA-MRSA in China has been diverse. It is unclear whether different sites of CA-MRSA infection differ in antimicrobial resistance and clinical characteristics. The purpose of this study was to identify the molecular types, virulence factors and antimicrobial resistance of CA-MRSA strains and to analyze the clinical characteristics of different sites of CA-MRSA infection.

The outbreak of airborne pathogens, such as methicillin-resistant (MRSA) through bioaerosol, and their molecular characterization around domestic poultry farming areas, was not completely understood. This imposes risk of a MRSA-associated health threat for the relevant livestock food production units. To address this issue, the present study investigated the role of bioaerosol in transmitting MRSA strains in poultry house settings by combining molecular typing, phylogenetic classification, antibiotic susceptibility, and virulence gene distribution patterns.

The prevalence of Panton-Valentine leukocidin gene (pvl)-positive community-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus USA300 clone, which is designated as the ST8-staphylococcal cassette chromosome (SCC) mec type IV (ST8-IV) lineage, is a major public health concern worldwide. Thus, to elucidate the prevalence and characteristics of pvl-positive community-onset MRSA in Japan, we conducted a molecular epidemiological analysis for 854 S. aureus isolates obtained from outpatients with skin infections during 2013 and 2014.
