Modern handheld devices and wireless communications foster new kinds of communication and interaction that can define new approaches to teaching and learning. Mobile learning (m-learning) seeks to use them extensively, exactly in the same way in which e-learning uses personal computers and wired communication technologies. In this new mobile environment, new applications and educational models need to be created and tested to confirm (or reject) their validity and usefulness. In this article, we present a mobile tool aimed at self-assessment, which allows students to test their knowledge at any place and at any time. The degree to which the students' achievement improved is also evaluated, and a survey on the students' opinion of the new tool was also conducted. An experimental group of 20- to 21-year-old nursing students was chosen to test the tool. Results show that this kind of tool improves students' achievement and does not make necessary to introduce substantial changes in current teaching activities and methodology.

We present a laboratory module that uses isolation of antibiotic-resistant bacteria from locally collected stream water samples to introduce undergraduate students to basic microbiological culture-based and molecular techniques. This module also educates them on the global public health threat of antibiotic-resistant organisms. Through eight laboratory sessions, students are involved in quality testing of water sources from their neighborhoods, followed by isolation of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing .

Three tasks, important from the point of view of both children's functioning at a given life stage and preparation for the next developmental phase, were selected. These are school skills, cooperation with others and a sense of competence.

Predictions of student performance are important to the education system as a whole, helping students to know how their learning is changing and adjusting teachers' and school policymakers' plans for their future growth. However, selecting meaningful features from the huge amount of educational data is challenging, so the dimensionality of student achievement features needs to be reduced. Based on this motivation, this paper proposes an improved Binary Snake Optimizer (MBSO) as a wrapped feature selection model, taking the Mat and Por student achievement data in the UCI database as an example, and comparing the MBSO feature selection model with other feature methods, the MBSO is able to select features with strong correlation to the students and the average number of student features selected reaches a minimum of 7.
