We report the synthesis of a graphene-sulfur composite material by wrapping poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) coated submicrometer sulfur particles with mildly oxidized graphene oxide sheets decorated by carbon black nanoparticles. The PEG and graphene coating layers are important to accommodating volume expansion of the coated sulfur particles during discharge, trapping soluble polysulfide intermediates, and rendering the sulfur particles electrically conducting. The resulting graphene-sulfur composite showed high and stable specific capacities up to ∼600 mAh/g over more than 100 cycles, representing a promising cathode material for rechargeable lithium batteries with high energy density.

Emissions due to tires retread/repair and incineration are a cause of concern owing to the presence of nanoparticles in the products. The assessment exposure to humans hereto related is a challenge in an environmental context. The first object of this work is to develop a method to characterize the emission sources using online (counting and sizing) and offline measurements.

Exposure to diesel exhaust is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular and lung disease. Substituting petroleum diesel with renewable diesel can alter emission properties but the potential health effects remain unclear. This study aimed to explore toxicity and underlying mechanisms of diesel exhaust from renewable fuels.

Ambient air pollution exposure was associated with an increased risk of incident cancer, but few previous studies have focused on the associations between ambient air pollution and nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Thus, our goal is to examine whether exposure to ambient air pollution in Hangzhou, which includes sulfur dioxide (SO), nitrogen dioxide (NO), and inhalable particles (PM), will have an impact the risk of incident cancer. We collected data on daily ambient air pollution data, climate, and daily incidence of NPC in Hangzhou from Jan 1, 2013, to Dec 31, 2022.

A cost-effective industrial TiOSO solution was employed to fabricate visible light active sulfur-doped titanium dioxide (S-TiO) via a facile hydrothermal method. The effect of calcination temperature on morphology, particle size, crystallinity, and photocatalytic property of S-TiO was systematically investigated. Successful incorporation of sulfur into TiO was confirmed by carbon-sulfur analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS).

Anammox coupled partial S-driven autotrophic denitrification (PSAD) technology represents an innovative approach for removing nitrogen from wastewater. The research highlighted the crucial role of biofilm on sulfur particles in the nitrogen removal process. Further analysis revealed that sulfur-oxidizing bacteria (SOB) are primarily distributed in the inner layer of the biofilm, while anammox bacteria (AnAOB) are relatively evenly distributed in inner and outer layers, with Thiobacillus and Candidatus Brocadia being the dominant species, respectively.
