Aim: To assess pathological and radiological prognostic factors for cancers detected by screening within a multi-centre RCT trial of mammographic screening of younger women.
Method: The survival of 232 women with screen detected invasive cancer was ascertained. Data on invasive cancer size, histological grade, nodal status, vascular invasion, mammographic spiculation, comedo calcification and mammographic background were assessed. Kaplan-Meier and Cox proportional hazards methods were used to examine survival.
Results: Univariate analysis indicated that women with cancers with the following features had poorer survival; ≥ 30 mm, histologically grade 3, heavily node positive (4 or more positive nodes), vascular invasion positive and displaying mammographic comedo calcification. In a multivariate model survival remained poorer in women with four or more nodes positive (HR 8.36, 95% CI 2.31, 30.17) and in those with comedo calcification (HR 3.00,95% CI 1.13, 7.99).
Conclusion: Nodal status and the presence of mammographic comedo calcification have independent prognostic significance in young women with screen detected cancer.

Background: Ductal carcinoma in situ with microinvasion (DCISM) represents 1% of all breast cancer cases and is arguably a more aggressive subtype of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). Preoperative evaluation of DCISM usually relies on core needle biopsy, and non-invasive evaluation methods are relatively limited. This study aims to explore the features of conventional ultrasound (US) and contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in DCISM and to analyze the US and clinicopathological predictors of infiltrating components.

Objective: The aim of this retrospective study was to analyze the predictive capabilities of preoperative mammography, dynamic contrast-enhanced-magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI), and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in determining hormone receptor (HRc) status for pure ductal carcinoma (DCIS) lesions.
Materials And Methods: The study included a total of 79 patients who underwent preoperative mammography (MG) and MRI between December 2018 and December 2023 and were subsequently diagnosed with pure DCIS after surgery. The correlation between MG, DCE-MRI, and DWI features and estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR) status was examined.

Background: Calcifications on mammography can be indicative of breast cancer, but the prognostic value of their appearance remains unclear. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the association between mammographic calcification morphology descriptors (CMDs) and clinicopathological factors.
Methods: A comprehensive literature search in Medline via Ovid, Embase.

There have been several investigations of non-mass-like (NML) lesions on ultrasound (US) since Uematsu first described this approach, and it is a relatively new concept for breast examination. However, the results have varied, and there have been only a few studies related to the detailed histopathology of NML lesions on US. Here, we review the histopathology of NML lesions.

BACKGROUND Male breast cancer is a very rare disease that represents 0.6% of all breast carcinomas. Among breast carcinomas, invasive cribriform carcinoma (ICC) is a rare type of breast carcinoma and is more common in older women, with only a few cases in men reported.
