An efficient synthesis of thiophene derivatives is described via one-pot reaction between ammonium thiocyanate, acyl chlorides, α-halocarbonyls, and enaminones under solvent-free conditions at 65 °C. The mild reaction conditions and high yields of the products exhibit the good synthetic advantage of these methods.

Metabolism and disposition of zamicastat in rats.

Xenobiotica

October 2024

Department of Research and Development, BIAL - Portela & Ca. S.A., São Mamede do Coronado, Portugal.

The metabolism and disposition of zamicastat, a reversible dopamine β-hydroxylase (DβH) inhibitor, developed for treatment of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH), were investigated in rats after oral and intravenous administration of [C]-zamicastat.Zamicastat was rapidly absorbed and widely distributed to peripheral tissues, with total radioactivity almost completely recovered 168 h post-dose. Its main route of excretion was via faeces, whilst urine and expired air had minor roles.

Crack detection in high-pressure hydrogen gas components, such as pipes, is crucial for ensuring the safety and reliability of hydrogen infrastructure. This study conducts the nondestructive testing of crack propagation in steel piping under cyclic compressive loads in the presence of hydrogen in the material. The specimens were hydrogen-precharged through immersion in a 20 mass% ammonium thiocyanate solution at 40 °C for 72 h.

By introducing disordered molecules into a crystal structure, the motion of the disordered molecules easily induces the formation of multidimensional frameworks in functional crystal materials, allowing for structural phase transitions and the realization of various dielectric properties within a certain temperature range. Here, we prepared a novel ionic complex [CHN][Fe(NCS)]HO () between 2-aminobenzimidazole and ferric isothiocyanate from ferric chloride hexahydrate, ammonium thiocyanate, and 2-aminobenzimidazole using the evaporation of the solvent method. The main components, the single-crystal structure, and the thermal and dielectric properties of the complex were characterized using infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder XRD, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, variable-temperature and variable-frequency dielectric constant tests, etc.

A new one-dimensional thiocyanate-bridged cobalt(III) Schiff base complex, namely, catena-poly[[[4-bromo-2-((Z)-{[2-(thiophen-2-yl)ethyl]imino}methyl)phenolato-κN,O]cobalt(III)]-μ-thiocyanato-κN:S], [Co(SCN)(CHBrNOS)] or [Co(μ-SCN)L] (1), where HL is 4-bromo-2-((Z)-{[2-(thiophene-2-yl)ethyl]imino}methyl)phenol, a bidentate Schiff base prepared from the condensation reaction of 5-bromosalicylaldehyde and 2-(thiophen-2-yl)ethylamine, has been synthesized by stirring Co(ClO)·6HO, the Schiff base HL and ammonium thiocyanate (in a 1:2:1 molar ratio) in ethanol medium. The complex was characterized by FT-IR, electronic spectra and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD) studies. The SC-XRD data suggest that the compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pca2.
