Published: July 2011

The amination of triaryl phosphates was achieved using a Ni(II)-(σ-Aryl) complex/NHC catalyst system in dioxane at 110 °C in the presence of NaH as base. Electron-neutral, -rich, and -deficient triaryl phosphates were coupled with a wider range of amine partners including cyclic and acyclic secondary amines, aliphatic primary amines, and anilines in good to excellent yields.

Exposure to the organophosphate esters (OPEs), used as flame retardants and plasticizers, is associated with a variety of adverse health effects including an increase in the incidence of fatty liver diseases. The goal of this study was to investigate the effects of six OPEs, all detected in Canadian house dust, on the phenotype and function of HepG2 liver cells. We used high-content imaging to investigate the effects of these OPEs on cell survival, mitochondria, oxidative stress, lipid droplets, and lysosomes.

Eight-Membered Palladacycle Intermediate Enabled Synthesis of Cyclic Biarylphosphonates.

Chemistry

January 2024

State Key Laboratory of Applied Organic Chemistry, Lanzhou University, Lanzhou, 730000, P. R. China.

Transition-metal-catalyzed coupling reactions that involve the direct functionalization of insert C-H bond represent one of the most efficient strategies for forming carbon-carbon bonds. Herein, a palladium-catalyzed intramolecular C-H bond arylation of triaryl phosphates is reported to access seven-membered cyclic biarylphosphonate targets. The reaction is achieved via a unique eight-membered palladacyclic intermediate and shows good functional group compatibility.

Adverse effects associated with exposure to brominated flame retardants have led to regulations for their use and their replacement with organophosphate esters (OPEs). However, little is known about the impact of OPEs on the adrenal, a vital endocrine gland. Here, we used a high-content screening approach to elucidate the effects of OPEs on H295R human adrenal cell phenotypic endpoints and function.

Article Synopsis
  • Ortho-substituted isomers of tricresyl phosphates (TCPs) can lead to neurotoxic effects in humans and are detected using gas chromatography in an ionization source.
  • The study uncovers a proposed reaction mechanism involving the transformation of molecular ions into a distonic isomer, followed by oxidation and decomposition into a neurotoxic metabolite, CBDP.
  • Experimental and computational analyses provide evidence for the existence of hydrogen shift isomers of CBDP, allowing for the identification of potentially harmful TCPs in complex industrial mixtures.

Diphenyl Diselenide-Catalyzed Synthesis of Triaryl Phosphites and Triaryl Phosphates from White Phosphorus.

Org Lett

July 2021

Department of Chemistry, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and Key Laboratory for Chemical Biology of Fujian Province, Xiamen University, Xiamen, Fujian 361005, China.

Industrially important triaryl phosphites, traditionally prepared from PCl, have been synthesized by a diphenyl diselenide-catalyzed one-step procedure involving white phosphorus and phenols, which provides a halogen- and transition metal-free way to these compounds. Subsequent oxidation of triaryl phosphites produces triaryl phosphates and triaryl thiophosphates. Phosphorotrithioates are also prepared efficiently from aromatic thiols and aliphatic thiols.
