A 39-year-old man had an unusual presentation of jaundice and acute renal dysfunction complicating midgut malrotation. Diagnosis by computed tomography scan enabled prompt surgery and functional correction of the malrotation, with a full return to normal life.

Background And Purpose: Kidney disease (KD) is a leading cause of mortality worldwide, affecting 〉10% of the global population. Two of the most common causes of KD are diabetes and acute kidney injury (AKI), both of which induce mitochondrial dysfunction resulting in renal proximal tubular damage/necrosis. Thus, pharmacological induction of mitochondrial biogenesis (MB) may provide a therapeutic strategy to block the onset/progression of KD.

Chronic kidney disease is a life-threatening disease worldwide. PPARα is a crucial transcriptional regulator of lipid metabolism and inflammation. Here, we examine whether a novel selective PPARα modulator, pemafibrate modulates renal injury in a model of unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO).

Renal ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is a prevalent cause of acute kidney injury, however, the regulatory mechanisms of miR-374b-5p in renal IRI remain poorly understood. We established hypoxia/reoxidation (H/R)-induced renal injury models using HK-2 and TCMK-1 cells, as well as an ischemia-reperfusion (I/R)-induced mouse model. Renal tubular epithelial cells (RTECs) viability and apoptosis were assessed using CCK-8, flow cytometry, and TUNEL assays.

Bioelectrical impedance analysis is a method widely used to assess body composition and parameters related to health and its disorders, which has prognostic value in gastroenterology, endocrinology, nephrology, cardiology, pulmonology, oncology, surgery and critical care. of this study was to analyze bioimpedance measurements in patients with chronic lung diseases [interstitial lung diseases (ILD), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)] in relation to clinical and biochemical parameters for assessing respiratory, cardiac and renal failure. .
