The aim of this study was to observe the electrophysiological characteristics of the isolated rat muscle spindle. The muscle spindle was isolated from rat soleus and the afferent discharge of the isolated muscle spindle was recorded by air-gap technique. In the basic physiological salt solution, the spontaneous impulses of muscle spindle were at a lower level with irregular intervals. The mean frequency of afferents was (51.78 ± 25.63) impulses/1 000 s (n = 13). The muscle spindle afferents were significantly increased and maintained over time by the addition of certain amino acids during the observation. The number of the action potential recorded per 1 000 s was 200-1 000 [mean: (687.62 ± 312.56) impulses/1 000 s, n = 17]. In addition to the typical propagated action potential, a large number of abortive spikes were observed. The results indicate that the activities of isolated muscle spindles in rats can be well maintained by the addition of certain amino acids. The results initially establish and provide the possibility for further research conducted in isolated rat muscle spindles.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms characterized by spindle-cell morphology with accompanying inflammatory infiltrates. Originally described in 1939, these tumors can arise in various anatomic locations, with the urinary bladder being a rare site of occurrence but the most common within the genitourinary tract. IMTs typically present as polypoid masses or firm submucosal nodules, often with painless hematuria in bladder cases.

This study investigated how the judgment of proximal joint position can be affected by touch alone, focused attention on the distal body part, or touch spatial localization. Participants completed a two-arm elbow joint position-matching task, in which they indicated the location of one forearm by the placement of the other. In four test conditions, matching was performed during (1) detection of touch (tactile stimulation of index finger pads), (2) spatial localization of fingers (attention focused on the position of index finger pads), (3) spatial localization of touch on fingers (attention focused on tactile stimulation of index finger pads), and (4) detection of touch but localization of fingers (tactile stimulation of index finger pads, but attention focusing on the spatial position of the pads).

The evolution of mechanisms for terrestrial locomotion has resulted in multi-segmented limbs that allow navigation on irregular terrains, changing of direction, manipulation of external objects, and control over the mechanical properties of limbs important for interaction with the environment, with corresponding changes in neural pathways in the spinal cord. This article is focused on the organization of these pathways, their interactions with the musculoskeletal system, and the integration of these neuromechanical circuits with supraspinal mechanisms to control limb impedance. It is argued that neural pathways from muscle spindles and Golgi tendon organs form a distributive impedance controller in the spinal cord that controls limb impedance and coordination during responses to external disturbances.

Smooth muscle and adenoma-like renal tumor (SMART) is a biphasic tumor composed of cytologically bland stromal and epithelial components. It has many histopathological mimickers. A 57-year-old man presented with a left renal mass.
