Aim: To investigate factors that influenced nutritional care provided in two different types of residential care settings.

Methods: The study used qualitative methods, including focus group interviews with relevant staff members, individual interviews with managers and residents of the care homes and their informal carers, observation of food preparation and mealtimes throughout the day and analysis of appropriate documents.

Findings: Data were analysed thematically, and this article describes one of the four main themes that emerged: the relationship between social context and residents' eating and drinking experiences.

Conclusion: Greater understanding of the sociocultural context of eating and drinking in residential care settings may be used to inform nursing practice in relation to meeting older people's nutritional needs in other settings.

The understanding of responses to traumatic events has been greatly influenced by the introduction of the diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In this paper we review the initial versions of the diagnostic criteria for this condition and the associated epidemiological findings, including sociocultural differences. We consider evidence for post-traumatic reactions occurring in multiple contexts not previously defined as traumatic, and the implications that these observations have for the diagnosis.

Purpose Of Review: To highlight recent findings on the prevalence and risk and protective factors for dementia in Indigenous Peoples, who are disproportionately affected by health inequities driven by social determinants of health and historical injustices. With increasing numbers of Indigenous individuals entering older age, there is a growing need for research to better understand dementia and opportunities for prevention in Indigenous Peoples.
