Reaction time is an indirect index of processing capabilities of the central nervous system. The present study was carried out to determine if there is any alteration of simple auditory reaction time across the normal menstrual cycle. In this study, reaction time of 100 female medical and paramedical students was recorded in different phases of their menstrual cycle namely premenstrual, menstrual, middle of proliferative, middle of secretory phase and on the expected day of ovulation. Results were expressed as mean, standard deviation and statistically analyzed using student's paired 't' test. On comparing each phase with the corresponding adjacent phases auditory reaction time was significantly increased (P<0.05) in premenstrual phase and on the expected day of ovulation. Thus fluctuating levels of sex steroids across normal menstrual cycle affect sensory motor association of an individual.

Background: Fibrosis of the connective tissue in the vaginal wall predominates in pelvic organ prolapse (POP), which is characterized by excessive fibroblast-to-myofibroblast differentiation and abnormal deposition of the extracellular matrix (ECM). Our study aimed to investigate the effect of ECM stiffness on vaginal fibroblasts and to explore the role of methyltransferase 3 (METTL3) in the development of POP.

Methods: Polyacrylamide hydrogels were applied to create an ECM microenvironment with variable stiffness to evaluate the effects of ECM stiffness on the proliferation, differentiation, and expression of ECM components in vaginal fibroblasts.

Human behavior is strongly influenced by anticipation, but the underlying neural mechanisms are poorly understood. We obtained intracranial electrocephalography (iEEG) measurements in neurosurgical patients as they performed a simple sensory-motor task with variable (short or long) foreperiod delays that affected anticipation of the cue to respond. Participants showed two forms of anticipatory response biases, distinguished by more premature false alarms (FAs) or faster response times (RTs) on long-delay trials.

Cell-free DNA (cfDNA) is continuously shed by all cells in the body, but the regulation of this process and its physiological functions are still largely unknown. Previous research has demonstrated that both nuclear (cf-nDNA) and mitochondrial (cf-mtDNA) cfDNA levels increase in plasma in response to acute psychosocial and physical stress in males. This study further investigated these findings by testing 31 female participants (16 using oral hormonal contraception and 15 not using oral hormonal contraception), and the results were subsequently compared with those of 16 male participants.
