Single water molecules have been isolated in solid Ar matrices at 4 K and studied by rovibrational spectroscopy using FTIR in the regions of the ν(1), ν(2), and ν(3) modes. Upon nuclear spin conversion at 4 K, essentially pure para-H(2)O was prepared, followed by subsequent fast annealing generating ice particles. FTIR studies of the vapor above the condensed water upon annealing to T ≥ 250 K indicate fast reconversion of nuclear spin to equilibrium conditions. Our results indicate that nuclear spin conversion is fast in water dimers and larger clusters, which preclude preparation of concentrated samples of para-H(2)O, such as in ice or vapor.

The spin-exotic hybrid meson π_{1}(1600) is predicted to have a large decay rate to the ωππ final state. Using 76.6 pb^{-1} of data collected with the GlueX detector, we measure the cross sections for the reactions γp→ωπ^{+}π^{-}p, γp→ωπ^{0}π^{0}p, and γp→ωπ^{-}π^{0}Δ^{++} in the range E_{γ}=8-10 GeV.

The spin tensor is fundamental to relativistic spin hydrodynamics, but its definition is ambiguous due to the pseudogauge symmetry. We show that this ambiguity can be solved in interacting field theories. We prove that the mean-field limit of a modified Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with spin-spin interactions is equivalent to nondissipative spin hydrodynamics with a canonical spin tensor.

Arterial spin labelling (ASL) enables non-invasive quantification of regional brain perfusion using MRI. ASL was used in the Reducing Pathology in Alzheimer's Disease through Angiotensin TaRgeting (RADAR) multi-centre trial to pilot the assessment of the effects of the anti-hypertension drug losartan on cerebral blood flow (CBF). In the multi-centre setting, disparities in ASL implementation on scanners from different manufacturers lead to inherent differences in measured CBF and its associated parameters (e.

The aromaticity of a representative sample of pro-aromatic radicals and its nitro, amino, hydroxyl and imine substituted derivatives has been analysed by means of multicentre delocalization indices (MCI) and nuclear-independent chemical shifts (NICS). Because of their radical character, these compounds may exhibit conflicting α/ß aromaticity, so that the contribution of α and β electrons to the MCI and NICS has been analysed separately and their values qualitatively interpreted in terms of the 2n+1/2n rule. All the monocyclic radicals investigated show conflicting α/β aromaticity.
