Published: May 2011

With the development of assisted reproductive technique (ART), children born following ART now form a sizeable subgroup of the population, so assessment for the safety of ART becomes more urgent than ever before. The health problems about living quality of children conceived by ART mainly focus on perinatal outcome and short-term follow-up study, including multiple pregnancies, low birth weight and prematurity in singleton births, congenital malformations, imprinting disorders, neurodevelopmental outcome, neonatal outcomes, physical and mental health, as well as cancer risks. In this review, we will discuss the health problems of these children, to provide data for further study.

Spatiotemporal Mapping of Ultrafine Particle Fluxes in an Office HVAC System with a Diffusion Charger Sensor Array.

ACS EST Air

January 2025

Lyles School of Civil & Construction Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana 47907, United States.

Commercial HVAC systems intended to mitigate indoor air pollution are operated based on standards that exclude aerosols with smaller diameters, such as ultrafine particles (UFPs, D ≤ 100 nm), which dominate a large proportion of indoor and outdoor number-based particle size distributions. UFPs generated from occupant activities or infiltrating from the outdoors can be recirculated and accumulate indoors when they are not successfully filtered by an air handling unit. Monitoring UFPs in real occupied environments is vital to understanding these source and mitigation dynamics, but capturing their rapid transience across multiple locations can be challenging due to high-cost instrumentation.

Physical Health Symptoms and Perceptions of Air Quality among Residents of Smoke-Damaged Homes from a Wildland Urban Interface Fire.

ACS EST Air

January 2025

Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, Colorado School of Public Health, University of Colorado Anschutz, Aurora, Colorado 80045, United States.

The Marshall Fire was a wildland urban interface (WUI) fire that destroyed more than 1000 structures in two communities in Colorado. High winds carried smoke and ash into an unknown number of buildings that, while not incinerated, were significantly damaged. We aimed to understand whether smoke or ash damage to one's home was associated with physical health impacts of the fire event for people living in and around the fire zone whose homes were not completely destroyed.

Current research into the digital healthcare landscape reveals a significant gap in understanding the perspectives of consumers with lived health experiences on sharing their health data for research purposes. Despite the substantial value that such shared information can bring to healthcare research, policy development, and system improvement, insights into the attitudes and willingness of these consumers towards data sharing remain sparse. This study seeks to fill this gap, exploring the unique views of these individuals and assessing the potential benefits their data sharing could contribute to healthcare.

Down syndrome is the most prevalent genetic condition contributing to intellectual disability. Advancements in medical care have significantly increased the life expectancy of people with this condition, making employment a vital component for independent living and quality of life. The aim of this study was to examine the current literature on the employability and employment experiences of individuals with Down syndrome, focusing on the evolution of the employment rate and factors influencing employment such as cognitive and personal factors, societal attitudes, challenges, and effective support systems.

Background: The rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has transformed the Australian funding landscape for individuals with disability and their families. This study examined whether the profiles of autistic children and their families accessing an early intervention (EI) setting have changed following its introduction.

Methods: The cognition and behavioural profiles of children funded under the NDIS ( = 58) were compared to children who had received block government funding (= 58).
