A number of oligopeptides, protected at their N termini and possessing an aldehyde residue at their C terminal amino acids, are able to inhibit 45Ca2+ influx into anterior pituitary cells grown in monolayer culture and depolarized with high extracellular potassium concentration. In addition, the same oligopeptides interfere with hormone release, especially with that produced by lactotrophs. Our findings imply that oligopeptides may represent a new class of calcium channel ligands, and the pituitary cells are sensitive targets for them.

Telomere length (TL) is considered a biomarker of aging, and short TL in leukocytes is related to age and stress-related health problems. Cumulative lifetime stress exposure has also been associated with shorter TL and age-related health problems, but the mechanisms are not well understood. We tested in 108 individuals whether shorter TL in leukocytes is observed in individuals with the GABRA6 TT genotype, which has been associated with dysregulation of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis activity (the main biological stress system) compared to the CC genotype.

DEHP is a prevalent phthalate with wide industrial applications and well-documented endocrine-disrupting effects, including the potential disruption of AR signaling in different tissues. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of gestational and lactational exposure to environmentally relevant DEHP concentrations on AR expression and subcellular localization in the pituitary gland, the master endocrine organ, with a focus on gonadotroph cells by in vivo and in vitro approaches. After DEHP exposure during gestation and lactation, a sex-specific modulation was detected in AR-positive pituitary cells and AR protein expression as assessed through flow cytometry and western blot.
