Besides the contribution in cell death, apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF) also exerts roles in other cellular activities, which are largely unknown. The CCAAT-enhancer binding protein alpha (C/EBPα) is required for differentiation of adipocytes and granulocytes. Here we report that, during 3T3-L1 adipocyte differentiation, AIF expression is robustly upregulated via transcriptional regulation by C/EBPα. The upregulated effect is also confirmed by knockdown and ectopic expression of C/EBPα in U937 and MCF-7 cells respectively with and without endogenous expression of C/EBPα protein. We also reveal that AIF knockdown attenuates 3T3-L1 adipocyte differentiation, presumably due to the mitochondrial respiratory chain deficiency. These results provide evidence for the role of AIF in adipocyte differentiation.

Lipomas are benign soft tissue tumors composed of mature adipocytes, commonly found in subcutaneous tissues. Despite their prevalence in various body regions, they are relatively rare in the oral and maxillofacial regions. This study retrospectively analyzed the clinical and imaging characteristics, as well as the treatment outcomes of 57 patients diagnosed with lipoma.

Porcine latissimus dorsi muscle (LDM) is a crucial source of pork products. Meat quality indicators, such as the proportion of muscle fibers and intramuscular fat (IMF) deposition, vary during the growth and development of pigs. Numerous studies have highlighted the heterogeneous nature of skeletal muscle, with phenotypic differences reflecting variations in cellular composition and transcriptional profiles.

A lipoblastoma is a benign tumor of adipocytes originating from embryonic white fat and occurs in the pediatric population. Congenital lipoblastomas, however, are rare, and the incidence of these tumors in neonates is unknown. Due to their rare presentation, congenital oral lipoblastomas can, firstly, pose diagnostic challenges for the pediatrician and must be differentiated from the more commonly seen oral lesions in the newborn and other rare malignant growths.

Proper differentiation of bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) into adipocytes is crucial for maintaining skeletal homeostasis. However, the underlying regulatory mechanisms remain incompletely understood, posing a challenge for the treatment of age-related osteopenia and osteoporosis. Here, through comprehensive gene expression analysis during BMSC differentiation into adipocytes, we identified the forkhead transcription factor Foxk2 as a key regulator of this process.

Lipids contribute significantly to the flavor of cell-cultured fish meat as precursor components of flavor compounds. Here, we initially reported the differences in lipid metabolite profiles and volatile compounds between adipogenic differentiation of adipose stem cells (ASCs) and adipocytic transdifferentiation of muscle stem cells (MSCs) from large yellow croakers. A total of 2106 lipid metabolites were identified by UPLC-MS/MS.
