We have studied the distribution of HLA-A, -B and DRB1 alleles and haplotypes by sequence specific oligonucleotide amplification in a sample of 125 unrelated healthy Moroccan individuals from Casablanca in Morocco. The city of Casablanca is known of its big ethnic diversity, especially Arabs and Berbers. The most frequent alleles found were: HLA-A*02 (18.4%), -A*01 (11.2%), -A*03 (10.8%), -B*51 (8.06%),-B*44 (7.66%), -B*08 (6.85%), -DRB1*04 (15.98%), DRB1*03 and DRB1*07 (13.92%) and -DRB1*01 (10%). High frequency for five two-locus haplotypes was observed for A*03-B*51 (5%), A*02-DRB1*03 (5.5%), A*02-DRB1*04 and A*01-DRB1*04 (5%) and B*35-DRB1*04 (4%). No predominant haplotype was observed for HLA A-B-DRB1. Our results confirm and extend the current knowledge about genetic pattern of the Moroccan of Casablanca. This study will serve as a reference for further anthropological studies, as well as studies of HLA and disease associations in the Moroccan population.

Many factors contribute to the development and the progression of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), including Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) molecules. Some of them are considered as predisposing, like DRB1*15, DRB1*13, DRB1*03, DRB1*04, DQB1*06, DQB1*02, while HLA A2, HLA B44, DRB1*11, and DRB1*12 are rather considered as protective. Data about such associations in the Moroccan population remain unknown.

Scorpion fauna is abundant in regions with arid and semi-arid climates, exposing these areas to a risk of envenomation, especially for children. Scorpion envenomations cause thousands of deaths each year, with notable incidences in the MENA region, South America, Latin and Central America, and India. Morocco is one of the countries most affected by this phenomenon; according to statistics from the Moroccan Poison Control and Pharmacovigilance Center (CAPM), approximately 8565 scorpion stings and envenomations were recorded annually between 2016 and 2022, mainly among children.

This proposed scientific statement is focused on providing new insights regarding challenges and opportunities for cardiovascular health (CVH) promotion in Africa. The statement includes an overview of the current state of CVH in Africa, with a particular interest in the cardiometabolic risk factors and their evaluation through metrics. The statement also explains the main principles of primordial prevention, its relevance in reducing noncommunicable disease and the different strategies that have been effective worldwide.

Infertility affects 10-15% of couples worldwide, with male factors accounting for half of cases. Environmental, behavioral, and genetic problems contribute to spermatogenic failure in 30% of idiopathic male infertility cases. Other factors, such as oxidative stress (OS), cause impaired spermatogenesis, abnormal sperm morphology, and reduced motility, eventually triggering male infertility.
