Background And Objectives: Plasma components are visually inspected, and non-transparent, turbid units are rejected for transfusion and fractionation. Additionally, in case a plasma component is deemed lipaemic, there is conflicting data on the accompanying red cell concentrate (RCC) in vitro quality. As visual inspection of plasma turbidity is a subjective method, we aimed to devise an objective measurement using a quick, non-invasive, table-top spectrophotometry-based method.

Metabolomics and lipidomics are pivotal in understanding phenotypic variations beyond genomics. However, quantification and comparability of mass spectrometry (MS)-derived data are challenging. Standardised assays can enhance data comparability, enabling applications in multi-center epidemiological and clinical studies.

Background: Whole blood (WB) is increasingly being used for resuscitation of trauma patients. Although platelet-, red blood cell (RBC)- and plasma-specific parameters in cold-stored WB are well characterized, there has been limited investigation of biological response modifiers (BRMs), which may induce adverse reactions in recipients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality and function of RBC, platelets, plasma proteins, and BRMs in cold-stored WB during storage.

Background: Vegan and vegetarian dietary patterns are known to beneficially modulate risk factors for cardiovascular disease; however, the current literature does not differentiate between various plant-based diets. This study aimed to examine the association between various plant-based diets and plasma lipids and glycaemic indices compared to a regular meat-eating diet.
Methods: A cross-sectional study of Australian adults (n = 230) aged 30-75yrs habitually consuming the following were recruited: vegan, lacto-vegetarian, pesco-vegetarian, semi-vegetarian, or regular meat-eater.

Background: Both blood (plasma and serum) and CSF tau phosphorylated at Threonine 217 (pTau217) have been shown to be able to discriminate early to mild Alzheimer's disease (AD) from non-AD neurodegenerative disorders and healthy controls with high sensitivity and specificity.
Objectives: We report the full validation of the ALZpath ultra-sensitive pTau217 research-use only (RUO) assays for human EDTA plasma, serum, and CSF using the Quanterix Simoa HD-X platform, in support of clinical trials and early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.
Methods: The ALZpath pTau217 Simoa Advantage v2 kit from ALZpath/Quanterix was used for method development and validation of pTau217 in human plasma, serum, and CSF.
