Added safety measures coupled with the development and use of pathogen reduction technologies (PRT) significantly reduces the risk of transfusion-transmitted infections (TTIs) from blood products. Current approved PRTs utilize chemical and/or UV-light based inactivation methods. While the effectiveness of these PRTs in reducing pathogens are well documented, these can cause tolerable yet unintended consequences on the quality and efficacy of the transfusion products.

This study proposes a novel, highly sensitive neutron detector design utilizing a unique multi-layered configuration. Each layer consists of a LiF: ZnS(Ag) scintillator coupled with a transparent neutron moderator that also functions as a light guide for the Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM) light sensor. This design offers a cost-effective and readily available alternative for existing neutron detectors.

Iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) have the potential to be utilized in a multitude of fields, including biomedicine. Consequently, the potential health risks associated with their use must be carefully considered. Most biosafety evaluations of IONPs have focused on examining the impact of the material's distinctive physicochemical attributes.

The effect of hot isostatic pressing (HIP) on the thermoelectric power factor of zinc oxide (ZnO) has been examined. ZnO is expected to be a potential n-type oxide thermoelectric material that could enhance the thermoelectric conversion efficiency. The HIP treatment is useful for densifying the material and controlling crystal defects in the material by applying high temperatures and pressures simultaneously.

Despite numerous studies investigating the correlation between the serum uric acid and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (UHR) and fatty liver disease, the evidence for the dose-response relationship between UHR and liver fat content (LFC) remains uncertain. This study employs quantitative computed tomography (CT) to quantify LFC and aims to investigate the correlation and dose-response relationship between UHR levels and LFC in Chinese adults. Based on the health check-up data from 2021 at Henan Provincial People's Hospital, China, the objective of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the association between UHR levels and LFC among individuals of different genders.
