The increase in the understanding of the physical and functional properties of the biological material, from the cellular level down to single molecules, owes its success to the development of suitable high-sensitivity platforms to image the biomaterial and analyze its response to specific stimuli. Imaging has indeed reached molecular capabilities, thanks to optical or magnetic markers [1], to the atomic force microscopy (AFM) in surface reconstruction [2], and is nearing success in three-dimensional (3-D) reconstruction thanks to X-ray holography [3].

In this paper, a novel molecularly imprinted polymer membrane modified glassy carbon electrode for electrochemical sensors (MIP-OH-MWCNTs-GCE) for epinephrine (EP) was successfully prepared by a gel-sol method using an optimized functional monomer oligosilsesquioxane-AlO sol-ITO composite sol (ITO-POSS-AlO). Hydroxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (OH-MWCNTs) were introduced during the modification of the electrodes, and the electrochemical behavior of EP on the molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensors was probed by the differential pulse velocity (DPV) method. The experimental conditions were optimized.

Oseltamivir is a drug that has been widely used to prevent and treat influenza A and B. In this work, an ultrasensitive, simple, and novel electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor combined with molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP-ECL) based on a graphene-like two-dimensional material, Mxene quantum dots (MQDs) was constructed to selectively detect oseltamivir. A molecularly imprinted polymer membrane containing an oseltamivir template was constructed by electropolymerization and elution of modified MQDs on a glassy carbon electrode.

SERS-Based Local Field Enhancement in Biosensing Applications.

Molecules

December 2024

State Key Laboratory on Integrated Optoelectronics, College of Electronic Science and Engineering, Jilin University, Changchun 130012, China.

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) stands out as a highly effective molecular identification technique, renowned for its exceptional sensitivity, specificity, and non-destructive nature. It has become a main technology in various sectors, including biological detection and imaging, environmental monitoring, and food safety. With the development of material science and the expansion of application fields, SERS substrate materials have also undergone significant changes: from precious metals to semiconductors, from single crystals to composite particles, from rigid to flexible substrates, and from two-dimensional to three-dimensional structures.

Dimer Is Not Double: The Unexpected Behavior of Two-Floor Peptide Nanosponge.

Molecules

Department of Chemical Science and Technologies, University of Rome "Tor Vergata", Via della Ricerca Scientifica, 00133 Rome, Italy.

Using the framework of an investigation of the stimuli-responsive behavior of peptide assembly on a solid surface, this study on the behavior of a chemisorbed peptide on a gold surface was performed. The studied peptide is a dimeric form of the antimicrobial peptide Trichogin GAIV, which was also modified by substituting the glycine with lysine residues, while the N-terminus octanoyl group was replaced by a lipoic one that was able to bind to the gold surface. In this way, a chemically linked peptide assembly that is pH-responsive was obtained because of the protonation/deprotonation of the sidechains of the Lys residues.

Enzymatic cascade reactions are widely utilized in food security, environmental monitoring, and disease diagnostics, whereas their practical application was hindered due to their limited catalytic efficiency and intrinsic fragility to environmental influences. Herein, a compartmentalized dual-enzyme cascade nanoreactor was constructed in metal-organic frameworks (ZIF-8) by a shell-by-shell growth method. ZIF-8 provided a good microenvironment to maintain the activity of enzymes and protected them against harsh conditions.
