Introduction: Testicular germ cell tumors are common in young men. There is a wide consensus regarding the key points in their diagnosis and treatment, although some elements, including the best approach to follow-up, are being reviewed and revised. We present a statistical study that uses tools for the evaluation of diagnostic tests to compare the usefulness of abdominal ultrasonography (US) in comparison with that of abdominal CT, taken as the gold standard, in the detection of liver metastases and retroperitoneal adenopathies in patients with testicular germ cell tumors.
Material And Methods: We analyzed a total of 308 diagnostic tests (154 CT studies and 154 US studies) from 59 patients with at least one year's follow-up at our institution. Patients underwent abdominal US before abdominal CT following a standard protocol.
Results: Compared to the gold standard, abdominal US had 95% sensitivity, 92% specificity, 82% PPV, and 98% NPV.
Conclusion: US is very sensitive and can be used in protocols for the follow-up of primary testicular tumors to rule out disease.

Background: The risk of cognitive decline in cancer survivors may be increased by platinum-based chemotherapy. Evidence indicates that physical exercise has a potential to reduce chemotherapy-related toxicity. The aim of this study was to assess effects of a 6-month aerobic-strength training on cognitive functions, metabolic flexibility, anthropometric parameters and physical fitness in testicular germ cell tumor (TGCT) survivors, treated with platinum-based chemotherapy.

Although the impact of gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) on spermatogenesis in trans women has already been studied, data on its precise effects on the testicular environment is poor. Therefore, this study aimed to characterize, through histological and transcriptomic analysis, the spermatogonial stem cell niche of 106 trans women who underwent standardized GAHT, comprising estrogens and cyproterone acetate. A partial dedifferentiation of Sertoli cells was observed, marked by the co-expression of androgen receptor and anti-Müllerian hormone which mirrors the situation in peripubertal boys.

Background And Aim: Ex vivo fluorescence confocal microscopy (FCM) systems are innovative optical imaging tools that create virtual high-resolution histological images without any standard tissue processing, either freezing or fixing in formalin and embedding in paraffin. These systems have opened an era that would revolutionize pathological examination by providing rapid, real-time assessments across various pathology subspecialties, potentially replacing conventional methods that are tissue- and time-consuming. This study aimed to present the first utilization of FCM in pediatric surgical oncology, focusing on assessing the benefits, particularly in facilitating rapid and accurate diagnosis.

: Non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) is a severe form of male infertility characterized by the absence of sperm in the ejaculate due to impaired spermatogenesis. Testicular sperm extraction (TESE) combined with intracytoplasmic sperm injection is the primary treatment, but success rates are unpredictable, causing significant emotional and financial burdens. Traditional clinical and hormonal predictors have shown inconsistent reliability.

Background/objectives: Testicular germ cell tumors (TGCT) are common in young adult men and have high cure rates. Conventional serum tumor markers and imaging are not able to differentiate between histologic subtypes of the disease, which portend different prognoses and require distinct therapeutic strategies. Micro-RNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding transcripts involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression, which have emerged as promising biomarkers in a variety of tumors.
