A 4-year-old Jack Russell terrier was presented with an array of clinical signs suggestive of autonomic dysfunction. Many of the clinical signs were consistent with a diagnosis of dysautonomia; however, both chronicity and resolution of signs contradicted a diagnosis of this disease.

Objectives: This study identifies key risk factors for fatality among adult tetanus patients and assesses the impact of vaccination status and antibody levels on disease severity and outcomes in tetanus cases. Despite widespread vaccination, fatality rates remain high due to diagnostic and management challenges.
Design/methods: A meta-analysis of 182 tetanus cases from 36 countries, published since 1990, was conducted.

Background And Objectives: Patients with synucleinopathies such as multiple system atrophy (MSA) and Parkinson's disease (PD) frequently display speech and language abnormalities. We explore the diagnostic potential of automated linguistic analysis of natural spontaneous speech to differentiate MSA and PD.
Methods: Spontaneous speech of 39 participants with MSA compared to 39 drug-naive PD and 39 healthy controls matched for age and sex was transcribed and linguistically annotated using automatic speech recognition and natural language processing.
Background Autonomic dysfunction is associated with adverse outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease. Cardiac autonomic dysfunction parameters such as heart rate variability (HRV) and heart rate recovery (HRR) have been studied individually and have been linked to the presence or likelihood of coronary artery disease. In this study, the cardiac autonomic function was assessed in terms of HRR and HRV.

Pancreatic β-cells are specialized in secreting insulin in response to circulating nutrients, mainly glucose. Diabetes is one of the most prevalent endocrine-metabolic diseases characterized by an imbalance in glucose homeostasis, which result mainly from lack of insulin production (type 1 diabetes) or insufficient insulin and peripheral insulin resistance (type 2 diabetes), both influenced by genetic and environmental components. Pancreatic β-cell dysfunction and islet inflammation are common characteristics of both types of the disease.

This study aimed to identify the clinical characteristics of patients with burning mouth syndrome (BMS) according to the low frequency/high frequency (LF/HF) ratio in the heart rate variability test and to evaluate the potential of the LF/HF ratio as an indicator for the diagnostic or predictive assessment of patients with BMS. A total of 469 patients with BMS who visited the Oral Diseases Clinic of Kyung Hee University Korean Medicine Hospital between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2022, were included in the study. The patients were asked to rate their tongue pain on a visual analog scale before and after treatment.
