The design, synthesis, conformational analysis, and variable-temperature NMR studies of pentiptycene-based molecular gears Pp(2)X, where Pp is the unlabeled (in 1H) or methoxy groups-labeled (in 1OM) pentiptycene rotor and X is the phenylene stator containing ortho-bridged ethynylene axles, are reported. The approach of using shape-persistent rotors of four teeth but C(2) symmetry for constructing four-toothed molecular gears is unprecedented. In addition, the first example of enantioresolution of chiral pentiptycene scaffolds is demonstrated. Density functional theory (DFT) and AM1 calculations on these Pp(2)X systems suggest two possible correlated torsional motions, geared rocking and four-toothed geared rotations, which compete with the uncorrelated gear slippage. The DFT-derived torsional barriers in 1H for rocking, four-toothed rotation, and gear slippage are approximately 2.9, 5.5, and 4.7 kcal mol(-1), respectively. The low energy barriers for these torsional motions result from the low energy cost of bending the ethynylene axles. Comparison of the NMR spectra of 1OM in a mixture of stereoisomers (1OM-mix) and in an enantiopure form (1OM-op) confirms a fast gear slippage in these Pp(2)X systems. The effect of the methoxy labels on rotational potential energy surface and inter-rotor dynamics is also discussed.

Fused filament fabrication (FFF) is an additive manufacturing process where a thermoplastic polymeric material, provided in the form of a filament, is extruded to create layers. Achieving a consistent flow of the extruded material is key to ensure quality of the final part. Extrudate flow depends on many factors; among these, the rate at which the filament is fed into the extruder.

Ditriptycylmethanes are known as molecular bevel gears because the two triptycyl groups act as wheels and display correlated rotation in solution. However, introduction of substituents on the methylene junction for chemical modification of the bevel gears has been difficult due to steric hindrance of the triptycyls. In this study, stannane-based molecular bevel gears with organic substituents on the tin linker were achieved by utilizing long Sn-C bonds.

Molecular spur gear dynamics with high gearing fidelity can be achieved through a careful selection of constituent molecular components that favorably position and maintain the two gears in a meshed configuration. Here, we report the synthesis of a new macrocyclic molecular spur gear with a bibenzimidazole stator combined with a second naphthyl bis-gold-phosphine gold complex stator to place two 3-fold symmetric 9,10-diethynyl triptycene cogs at the optimal distance of 8.1 Å for gearing.

This article first puts forward the shortcomings of current AMT starting control in the preface. Then, in the second chapter, the dynamic analysis of the starting process was carried out, and the three requirements of starting control were clarified: dynamic requirements, smoothness requirements and low slippage requirements; it was clarified that dynamic requirements were the main control objectives of starting control, smoothness Performance requirements and low clutch wear requirements are constraints. In the third chapter, the optimal control principle of the AMT starting is proposed; the clutch target engagement amount is determined according to the power requirements, the engine speed control strategy and the engine target speed are determined according to the low slip wear requirements, according to the requirements of ride comfort, the clutch engagement speed and synchronous compensation torque are determined, and an optimal starting control method with zero synchronous shock based on torque compensation is proposed.

We report efforts to prepare a molecular spur gear utilizing a convenient synthesis of a norbornane stator that positions two interdigitated diyne-linked triptycenes in parallel alignment. While gearing was not observed by F NMR for a -CF-labeled analog at temperatures as low as 213 K, we used molecular dynamics simulation and 2D metadynamics calculations to understand the gearing/slippage energetic profile for various molecular spur gears to guide future designs of these systems.
