The crude extract of Acanthopanax senticosus (AS) has been used extensively in Russia, China, Korea and Japan as an adaptogenic agent to fight against stress and fatigue. However, whether the liposoluble fraction possesses antifatigue activity or not is still unclear. A liposoluble fraction was administered orally to mice for 9 days. The swimming time to exhaustion was longer in the treatment groups (22.2 ± 3.3, 25.5 ± 4.8 min) than in the control group (13.7 ± 1.2 min, p < 0.05). The plasma TG (triglyceride) and BUN (blood urea nitrogen) levels in the high dose (500 mg/kg) groups were decreased significantly compared with the control group. Plasma lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) was lower in the treatment groups than in the control group. Chemical analysis from GC/MS revealed that the main components of the liposoluble fraction of AS were saturated fatty acid (12.98%), unsaturated fatty acid (33.13%), unsaturated alcohol (27.46%) and diolefine (15.76%). In conclusion, the liposoluble fraction enhanced the forced swimming capacity of mice by decreasing muscle damage, effectively preventing the increase in BUN concentration and increasing fat utilization. It is proposed that the antioxidant effect may be one of the antifatigue mechanisms of the liposoluble fraction of AS.

Chemical fingerprinting to characterize the occurrence state and abundance of organic and inorganic constituents within fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is useful in evaluating the associated health risks and tracing pollution sources. Herein, an analytical strategy for the rapid analysis of metal and organic constituents in PM2.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Jizhi syrup (JZTJ) is composed of eight medicinal herbs, including Houttuynia cordata, Fagopyrum dibotrys, Ilex chinensis, Ephedra sinica, Aster tataricus, Peucedanum praeruptorum, Citrus aurantium and Glycyrrhiza uralensis. It is mainly used for coughing caused by exogenous wind heat. Symptoms include fever, aversion to cold, chest and diaphragm tightness, cough and sore throat; and acute bronchitis and acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis with the above symptoms.

The thermal acidic-treatment-induced fibrillation of legume proteins isolated from cowpea and mung bean was demonstrated to be promoted by salt. Worm-like thin prefibrilar intermediates were formed in low salt concentrations (0-75 mM), which twisted to be the thick and mature amyloid-like fibrils with multistrands as the salt content was elevated (150-300 mM). Absorption of the fibrils fabricated in high salt concentrations to the oil/water interface constructed the protein layer with a significantly higher interfacial modulus compared with the one formed by the fibrils fabricated in low salt concentrations.

A switchable deep eutectic solvent-based liquid-phase microextraction was proposed and applied to the preconcentration and determination of liposoluble quality-markers of diterpenoid quinones (dihydrotanshinone I, cryptotanshinone, tanshinone I, and tanshinone IIA) in traditional Chinese medicine coupled with high performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detection. In the procedure, the hydrophilic deep eutectic solvent of diethanolamine-hexanoic acid (molar ratio 1:1) was prepared and added into the sample phase as an extractant, and a homogeneous solution was formed under slight vortex stirring. After the addition of HCl solution, the deep eutectic solvent miscible with the sample phase was converted to hydrophobic form, and a cloudy solution was generated.

Ciguatera poisoning (CP) cases linked to the consumption of deep-water fish occurred in 2003 in the Gambier Islands (French Polynesia). In 2004, on the request of two local fishermen, the presence of ciguatoxins (CTXs) was examined in part of their fish catches, i.e.
