This is a traditional (narrative) review with the objective of highlighting the contribution of obstetric ultrasonography (US) between the 11th and 14th week of pregnancy, commonly called first trimester anomaly scan. In addition to being used for the screening of chromosomal anomalies, US can be employed during this period to confirm or determine gestational age, evaluate fetal anatomy, diagnose malformations, screen major structural abnormalities and genetic syndromes, define the prognosis of pregnancy, diagnose and characterize multiple pregnancies, and screen preeclampsia and intrauterine growth restriction. The most important studies about this subject published between 1990 and 2010 in the Cochrane and PubMed libraries were included. The selected studies can be classified with scientific levels I to III.

Background: In recent years, miRNAs found in biological fluids have gained interest as biomarkers of numerous conditions, including migraine. This study aimed to identify differences in the levels of circulating miRNAs in the serum of migraineurs as compared to healthy controls, as well as between patients with different types of migraine and during the ictal and nonictal phases of the condition.
Methods: The screening phase of the study included serum from 13 migraine patients and 13 sex and age matched controls.

According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, leukemia ranks 14th in incidence and 11th in mortality and has a 5-year prevalence of approximately 1300,000 cases. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is the most common hematopoietic syndrome in children during the first 5 years of life and represents approximately 75 % of all neoplasms among the pediatric population. The development of leukemia is strongly governed by DNA alterations that accelerate the growth of bone marrow cells.

The associations between atmospheric temperature and congenital heart disease (CHD) and its subtypes are still inconclusive. In this population-based retrospective case-control study, 643 CHD cases and 3,215 non-CHD controls were analyzed through distributed lag nonlinear model to estimate the effect of weekly temperature exposure on CHD risk and to identify potentially vulnerable windows. Through the binary logistic regression model, we found that elevated temperature in the first trimester was associated with an increased risk of overall CHD and ventricular septal defect (VSD) (OR: 1.
