Background: It is generally accepted that an excessive production of reactive oxygen species plays an important role in acute renal failure secondary to ischemia and reperfusion. tert-Butylhydroquinone (tBHQ) is a well-known antioxidant. In this study, we evaluated whether tBHQ pretreatment prevented renal damage induced by ischemia and reperfusion (I/R).

Methods: Four groups of rats were studied: (a) control-sham (CT), (b) tBHQ-sham (tBHQ), (c) I/R and (d) tBHQ + I/R. Intraperitoneal (i.p.) injections of tBHQ (50 mg/kg) were given to the tBHQ and tBHQ + I/R groups and 3% ethanol/isotonic saline solution to the CT and I/R groups. Animals were killed 24 hours after I/R.

Results: tBHQ attenuated I/R-induced renal dysfunction, structural damage, oxidative/nitrosative stress, glutathione depletion and the decrease in several antioxidant enzymes.

Conclusion: The renoprotective effect of tBHQ on I/R injury was associated with the attenuation in oxidative/nitrosative stress and the preservation of antioxidant enzymes.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Ischemic stroke is a significant risk factor for human health, and Buyang Huanwu Decoction is a classical and famous Chinese formula for treating it, but without clear pharmacological mechanism.

Aim Of The Study: The aim of this study was to investigate that the molecular mechanism of BYHWD activation of the PKCε/Nrf2 signaling pathway to attenuate cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) oxidative damage.

Materials And Methods: The MCAO method was used to establish a brain I/R injury model in SD rats, and neurological deficits were evaluated by neurological function score.

Background: Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) has been shown to ameliorate early ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury after activation by tertiary butylhydroquinone (TBHQ). However, despite macrophage-associated inflammation being a distinguishing feature of I/R injury, the precise roles and mechanisms of Nrf2 in macrophage-associated inflammation are still poorly understood.

Methods: I/R and hypoxia/reperfusion (H/R) models were constructed using rats and using the H9C2 rat cardiomyoblast cell line, respectively.

It is reported that LGR4 (leucine-rich repeat domain containing G protein-coupled receptor 4) plays a crucial role in the physiological function of many organs. However, few data are available on the function and mechanism of LGR4 in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. The aim of this study was to explore the function and mechanism of LGR4 in I/R injury.

Polypropylene (PP) based active composite films were prepared by adding butylated hydroxy anisole (BHA), butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), and tertiary butylated hydroquinone (TBHQ) antioxidants using the extrusion molding process. All concentrations of BHT, 2% to 3% BHA, and 3% TBHQ significantly increased the tensile strength (TS) of the composite films compared with control films. Increasing antioxidant concentration decreased TS values for BHT films, whereas an opposite trend was observed for BHA and TBHQ films.
