A new approach for image matting is proposed based on the Kalman filter, to extract the matte and original foreground, despite the presence of noise in the observed image. Different filter formulations with a discontinuity-adaptive Markov random field prior are proposed for handling additive white Gaussian noise and film-grain noise.

Inspired by natural wrinkled surfaces, artificial surfaces with biomimetic wrinkled structures have been widely used to improve optical properties, wettability, and antibacterial properties. However, the preparation of wrinkled structures has the disadvantages of long-time consumption and complex processes. Herein, we prepared a self-wrinkling polyurethane-acrylate (PUA) wood coating via biomimetic self-wrinkling patterns by using a light-emitting diode (LED)/excimer/mercury lamp curing system, which was capable of self-matting, anti-fingerprint and skin-tactile performance.

(1) Background: This study aims to evaluate the image quality of abnormal cervical lymph nodes in head and neck cancer and the diagnostic performance of detecting extranodal extension (ENE) using free-breathing StarVIBE. (2) Methods: In this retrospective analysis, 80 consecutive head and neck cancer patients underwent StarVIBE before neck dissection at an academic center. Image quality was compared with conventional VIBE available for 28 of these patients.

Background: Lymph node characteristics markedly affect nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) prognosis. Matted node (MN), an important characteristic for lymph node, lacks explored MRI-based prognostic implications.
Purpose: Investigate MRI-determined MNs' prognostic value in NPC, including 5-year overall survival (OS), distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS), local recurrence-free survival (LRFS), progression-free survival (PFS), and its role in induction chemotherapy (IC).

Natural image matting is an essential technique for image processing that enables various applications, such as image synthesis, video editing, and target tracking. However, the existing image matting methods may fail to produce satisfactory results when computing resources are limited. Sampling-based methods can reduce the dimensionality of the decision space and, therefore, reduce computational resources by employing different sampling strategies.

Background: Preoperative diagnosis of the cause of adhesive small bowel obstruction (ASBO) is very challenging for surgeons. We aimed to develop a nomogram model for the identification of banded adhesions (BA) and matted adhesions (MA) of ASBO.
Methods: This retrospective study enrolled patients with ASBO between January 2012 and December 2020, classified into BA and MA groups according to the intraoperative findings.
