Objective: To explore the clinical value of Lens culinaris agglutinin-reactive alpha-fetoprotein in the differentiation diagnosis between benign and malignant liver diseases, as well as the early warning of hepatocellular carcinoma.
Methods: Alpha-fetoprotein variants from 300 patients with liver diseases were isolated with micro-spin column equipped lens culinaris agglutinin (LCA). The AFP and AFP-L3 were detected by the electrochemical luminescence (ECL) method, and the proportions of AFP-L3 were calculated.
Results: The positive rates of AFP-L3 of HCC patients and chronic liver disease patients were 95% and 64% respectively, there were significant difference in two groups (chi2 = 134.72, P < 0.01), the HCC incidence rates of AFP-L3 positive and negative chronic liver disease patients showed significant difference (chi2 = 80.158, P < 0.01). there were no correlations between the proportion of AFP-L3 and AFP consistency(r = 0.046, P > 0.05).
Conclusions: The detection of AFP-L3 by micro-spin column assay show great clinical value in the differentiation diagnosis of benign and malignant liver diseases, as well as the early warning of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) is the replication intermediates of all RNA viruses. Purification and analysis of the profile and sequence of dsRNA is vital in virus diagnoses and/or characterization. Cellulose is one of the common materials used for isolation of dsRNA.

Suspension TRAPping filter (sTRAP) is an attractive sample preparation method for proteomics studies. The sTRAP protocol uses 5% SDS that maximizes protein solubilization. Proteins are trapped on a borosilicate glass membrane filter, where SDS is subsequently removed from the filter.

We have found a novel mycovirus, MoCV1 in the rice blast fungus, Magnaporthe oryzae. MoCV1 has five dRNA segments as genome, and belong to Chrysoviridae tentatively. Using micro-spin column method or one-step reverse-transcription PCR (RT-PCR) assay, we detected a MoCV1-related virus from M.

Galloyl- and caffeoylquinic acids are among the most important pharmacological active groups of natural compounds. This study describes a pre-step in isolation of some selected representatives of these groups from biological samples. A selective solid-phase extraction (SPE) method for these compounds may help assign classes and isomer designations within complex mixtures.

Abstract Introduction. Research in the field of protein-bound phosphohistidine phosphorylation has been hampered by the difficulties in analysis and detection of phosphohistidine. Therefore a screening method was developed primarily for the analysis of phosphohistidine phosphatase 1 (PHPT1) activity.
