Core cross-linked star polymers possessing responsiveness to pH and temperature stimuli have been prepared, and we demonstrate how changes to pH and temperature can be used to trigger the release and uptake of a hydrophobic dye.

Remodeling of the pneumococcal cell wall, carried out by peptidoglycan (PG) hydrolases, is imperative for maintaining bacterial cell shape and ensuring survival, particularly during cell division or stress response. The protein Spr1875 plays a role in stress response, both regulated by the VicRK two-component system (analogous to the WalRK TCS found in Firmicutes). Modular Spr1875 presents a putative cell-wall binding module at the N-terminus and a catalytic C-terminal module (Spr1875) connected by a long linker.

Transglutaminase 2 (TG2) is a uniquely versatile protein with diverse catalytic activities, such as transglutaminase, protein disulfide isomerase, GTPase and protein kinase, and participates in several biological processes. According to information available in the RBP2GO database, TG2 can act as an RNA-binding protein (RBP). RBPs participate in posttranscriptional gene expression regulation, therefore influencing the function of RNA, whereas RNA molecules can also modulate the biological activity of RBPs.

RNA-protein interactions orchestrate hundreds of pathways in homeostatic and stressed cells. We applied an RNA-protein interactome capture method called protein cross-linked RNA extraction (XRNAX) to shed light on the RNA-bound proteome in dysmyelination. We found sets of canonical RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) regulating alternative splicing and engaged in the cytoplasmic granules to be perturbed at the level of their RNA interactome.

The adsorption of ellipsoidal colloidal particles on liquid interfaces induces interfacial deformation, resulting in anisotropic interface-mediated interactions and the formation of superstructures. Soft prolate-shaped microgels at the air-water interface offer an ideal model for studying spontaneous capillary-driven self-assembly due to their tunable aspect ratio, controlled functionality, and softness. These microgels consist of a polystyrene core surrounded by a cross-linked, fluorescently labeled poly([Formula: see text]-isopropylmethylacrylamide) shell.

In recent years, the paint and coatings industry has shifted away from traditional resin formulations that require high concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to achieve the desired rheological performance and sustainability targets. One approach to eliminate or reduce VOCs in paint and coating formulations while maintaining the final performance is to disperse stimuli-responsive polymer latex particles in water. The chemistry and architecture of these particles have been engineered such that the suspension rheology changes in response to the pH changes.
