Background: The language faculty is probably the most distinctive feature of our species, and endows us with a unique ability to exchange highly structured information. In written language, information is encoded by the concatenation of basic symbols under grammatical and semantic constraints. As is also the case in other natural information carriers, the resulting symbolic sequences show a delicate balance between order and disorder. That balance is determined by the interplay between the diversity of symbols and by their specific ordering in the sequences. Here we used entropy to quantify the contribution of different organizational levels to the overall statistical structure of language.
Methodology/principal Findings: We computed a relative entropy measure to quantify the degree of ordering in word sequences from languages belonging to several linguistic families. While a direct estimation of the overall entropy of language yielded values that varied for the different families considered, the relative entropy quantifying word ordering presented an almost constant value for all those families.
Conclusions/significance: Our results indicate that despite the differences in the structure and vocabulary of the languages analyzed, the impact of word ordering in the structure of language is a statistical linguistic universal.

Purpose: This study investigated the influence of vowel quality on loudness perception and stress judgment in Mongolian, an agglutinative language with free word stress. We aimed to explore the effects of intrinsic vowel features, presentation order, and intensity conditions on loudness perception and stress assignment.
Method: Eight Mongolian short vowel phonemes (/ɐ/, /ə/, /i/, /ɪ/, /ɔ/, /o/, /ʊ/, and /u/) were recorded by a native Mongolian speaker of the Urad subdialect (the Chahar dialect group) in Inner Mongolia.

Mercury (II) ion (Hg) as highly toxic heavy metal may be accumulated in aquatic ecosystems and animals species so as to enter human body to conduct health harm. To ensure the safety of fishes food, hence, it is of great interest to evaluate the Hg levels in different kinds of fishes as well as Hg removal in aquaculture tailwater. In this article, a selective colormetric detection and efficient removal strategy has been developed for Hg ions by the controlled supermolecular self-assembly of melamine (MA)-platinum (Pt) composites onto mesoporous FeO carriers.

Background: Patients who are informed about the causes, pathophysiology, treatment and prevention of a disease are better able to participate in treatment procedures in the event of illness. Artificial intelligence (AI), which has gained popularity in recent years, is defined as the study of algorithms that provide machines with the ability to reason and perform cognitive functions, including object and word recognition, problem solving and decision making. This study aimed to examine the readability, reliability and quality of responses to frequently asked keywords about low back pain (LBP) given by three different AI-based chatbots (ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini), which are popular applications in online information presentation today.

The rheological properties of concrete paste significantly influence its tensile creep behavior. In this study, the tensile creep behavior of high-volume fly ash concrete (HVFAC) employing the same cementitious pastes was experimentally investigated, and the rheological properties of the paste containing a high volume of fly ash using the (NI) technique was investigated in order to explore the influence of the paste's rheological properties (such as micro-mechanical properties and microscopic creep) on the early-age tensile creep of HVFAC. The results demonstrated that the micro-strain of paste containing a high volume of fly ash (HVFA) showed a larger value than that without fly ash.

Objective: To analyse long COVID patients' reconstruction of medical gaslighting (MG) discourse in online epistemic communities in order to identify the MG types experienced and unfold root causes.
Method: The mixed-methods of corpus‑based critical discourse analysis was applied to an ad hoc corpus of 18 threads (n = 1176 posts) from two sub-communities on the social media site Reddit. Comparative concordance analyses were performed on the two sub-corpora to semantically code concordance lines as MG types.
