Protective group-free syntheses of four racemic pheromones with a 6,8-dioxabicyclo[3.2.1]octane ring were achieved in five or six steps from commercially available (±)-3-butyn-2-ol (6) and 2-alkenyl halides or 2-alken-1-ol by employing Lewis acid-catalyzed acetalization of δ, ε-epoxy ketones as the key reaction. (±)-Frontalin (1) was prepared in a 25% overall yield in five steps from methallyl chloride (5a), (±)-endo-brevicomin (2) was prepared in a 23% overall yield in five steps from (E)-2-pentenyl bromide (5b), and (±)-exo-brevicomin (3) and (±)-3,4-dehydro-exo-brevicomin (4) were both prepared in a 4% overall yield in six steps based on (Z)-2-penten-1-ol (12).

Automated High-Throughput Affinity Capture-Mass Spectrometry Platform with Data-Independent Acquisition.

Affinity capture (AC) combined with mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics is highly utilized throughout the drug discovery pipeline to determine small-molecule target selectivity and engagement. However, the tedious sample preparation steps and time-consuming MS acquisition process have limited its use in a high-throughput format. Here, we report an automated workflow employing biotinylated probes and streptavidin magnetic beads for small-molecule target enrichment in the 96-well plate format, ending with direct sampling from EvoSep Solid Phase Extraction tips for liquid chromatography (LC)-tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) analysis.

Aim: To test a BiO-Optimizing Site Targeted (BOOST) approach to periodontal regeneration by the adjunctive use of locally delivered doxycycline (DOX) 2 weeks prior to minimally invasive surgery in terms of clinical and radiographic outcomes at 1 year.

Methods: For this randomized clinical trial, stage III/IV periodontitis patients presenting sites with intrabony defects and bleeding on probing (BoP+) after steps 1-2 of periodontal treatment were included. Sites were treated via subgingival instrumentation with or without a BOOST approach by local DOX.

What are the Thoughts of Women Whose Husbands' Frozen Testicular Sperm Is Thawed for in vitro Fertilization on the Day of Oocyte Retrieval? A Qualitative Study.

Int J Womens Health

January 2025

Nursing Department, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, People's Republic of China.

Objective: The psychological experiences will be analyzed to understand the needs and burdens of women on the day of oocyte retrieval when the thawed testicular sperm of their husbands is used for in vitro fertilization, in order to provide a basis for the subsequent formulation of relevant nursing measures.

Methods: This study utilized a descriptive phenomenological research approach. A cohort of 13 women undergoing oocyte retrieval on the day when thawed testicular sperm from their husbands is used for in vitro fertilization at the Reproductive Medicine Center of Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, between August and October 2024, were chosen as participants for this study.

Low Molecular Weight Biobased Aromatics from Pyrolysis Liquids Using Zeolites: Yield Improvements by Using Pyrolysis Oil Fractions.

ACS Omega

January 2025

Green Chemical Reaction Engineering, Engineering and Technology Institute Groningen, University of Groningen, Nijenborgh 4, 9747 AG Groningen, The Netherlands.

Pyrolysis liquids from lignocellulosic biomass have the potential to be used as a feed for aromatics such as benzene, toluene, and xylenes (BTX) using catalytic upgrading with zeolites. We here report an experimental study on the conversion of various pyrolysis oil fractions to determine the most suitable one for BTX synthesis. For this purpose, the pyrolysis liquid was fractionated using several extraction/distillation steps to give four fractions with different chemical compositions.

Institute of Condensed Matter and Nanosciences, Molecules Solids and Reactivity (IMCN/MOST), Université Catholique de Louvain, Bâtiment Lavoisier, Pl. Louis Pasteur, 1, bte 3. 1348, Louvain La Neuve, Belgium.

The present study describes the use of the di--butyl dicarbonate (BocO)/4-(,-dimethylamino)pyridine (DMAP) system for the amidation of carboxylic acids under neat conditions without heating. A set of carboxylic acids was explored, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), fatty acids and protected prolines in the presence of aromatic, benzylic and aliphatic amines as nucleophilic partners. The scope of this easy approach was extended to the preparation of thirty-two diverse carboxylic amides, which were recovered with isolated yields varying from moderate to excellent.
