2-Acetamido-2-deoxypentonolactones were synthesized from per-O-acetylated formazans of D-ribose, D- and L-arabinose, respectively. In dimethyl sulfoxide, a novel spontaneous transformation of the per-O-acetyl-pentose formazans into new 3,4,5-tri-O-acetyl-pent-2-enose formazans has been recognized. Additional examples for the occurrence of the isomerism between pseudo-aromatic chelate and open phenylazo-phenylhydrazone system were demonstrated by (1)H NMR spectroscopy in both the unprotected pentose formazans and 3,4,5-tri-O-acetyl-pent-2-enose formazans. Computational calculations supported higher stability of the ring form.

Article Synopsis
  • Human exposure to perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) can lead to ulcerative colitis, but the mechanisms of its toxicity in intestinal cells remain unclear.
  • Researchers studied the effects of PFOA on human colorectal cancer cells (HCT116) by examining cell viability, mitochondrial activity, and gene expression related to metabolism.
  • They found that 300 μmol/L of PFOA significantly reduced the viability of HCT116 cells and altered metabolic gene expression, while lower concentrations (50 μmol/L) increased mitochondrial respiratory activity.
  • The study suggests that mitochondrial activity could indicate PFOA's effects, and specific genes could play a role in the development of ulcerative colitis linked to PFOA exposure

Herein, we present a distorted square pyramidal mercury complex, [Hg(L)Cl] (1), based on a quinoline-substituted formazan ligand LH[3-Cyano-1,5-(quinolin-8-yl)formazan], which was evaluated for its anti-bacterial activity in vitro. Complex 1 was prepared by refluxing 3-Cyano-1,5-(quinolin-8-yl)formazan ligand and mercury chloride(II) in equimolar quantity and was characterized utilizing a range of analytical methods, including single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) technique. The crystal packing in complex 1 has been elucidated using supramolecular investigations, which have shown the presence of fascinating Hg-Cl⋅⋅⋅Hg intermolecular spodium bonds of the order 3.

Visual detection of uric acid in serum through catalytic oxidation by a novel cellulose membrane biosensor with schiff base immobilized uricase.

Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Pesticide Science, College of Sciences, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing 210095, China. Electronic address:

Uric acid (UA) serves as an important biochemical marker of various diseases, making the development of a novel method for its rapid and straightforward visual detection highly valuable. In this study, a uricase-based cellulose membrane biosensor (UCMB) was constructed by immobilizing uricase via a Schiff base reaction and nitroblue tetrazolium chloride (NBT) through adsorption. The UCMB detects UA through a mechanism in which uricase catalyzes the oxidation of UA, generation O radicals that subsequently oxidize NBT to formazan, producing a distinctive color change from yellow to purple.

Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Era College of Pharmacy, Era University, 226003, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India.

The low effectiveness of currently available antibiotics is driving efforts worldwide to generate new antimicrobial drugs. So, we synthesized some new formazan derivatives containing sulfonamide moiety, and assessed their in-silico biochemical properties as well as in-vitro antibacterial activity against some pathogenic Gram-positive (B. subtilis and S.

Background: Tissue engineering enables the production of three-dimensional microtissues which mimic naturally occurring conditions in special tissues. These 3D culture systems are particularly suitable for application in regenerative medicine or experimental pharmacology and toxicology. Therefore, it is important to analyse the cells in their 3D microenvironment with regard to viability and differentiation.
