In the title compound, [La(C(7)H(5)O(4))(3)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(3)(H(2)O)(2)]·C(12)H(8)N(2), the La(III) atom is coordinated by four N atoms from two chelating 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligands, four O atoms from three 2,6-dihy-droxy-benzoate (DHB) anions (one monodentate, the other bidentate) and two water O atoms, completing a distorted LaN(4)O(6) bicapped square-anti-prismatic geometry. Within the mononuclear complex mol-ecule, intra-molecular π-π stacking inter-actions are observed, the first between a coordinated phen mol-ecule and a DHB ligand [centroid-centroid distance = 3.7291 (16) Å], and the second between a coordinated phen mol-ecule and an uncoordinated phen ligand [centroid-centroid distance = 3.933 (2) Å]. Inter-molecular π-π stacking is observed between adjacent complexes [inter-planar distance = 3.461 (3) Å]. Intra- and inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds are observed in the DHB ligands and between a water mol-ecule and DHB ligands, respectively. O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds are also observed in the DHB ligands and between uncoordinated phen mol-ecules and aqua ligands.

The low electronegativity of Si gives rise to a variety of nonconventional intermolecular interactions in clusters of silanes and their derivatives, which have not been well characterized yet. Herein, we characterize the structures of various isomers of bare and Ar-tagged SiHOHSiH dimers composed of protonated silanol and silane by infrared photodissociation (IRPD) of mass-selected ions and dispersion-corrected density functional calculations (B3LYP-D3/aug-cc-pVTZ). The analysis of the IRPD spectra recorded in the OH stretch range reveals the competition between two types of nonconventional hydrogen bonds (H-bonds).

Extradiol dioxygenases (EDOs) catalyzing meta-cleavage of catecholic compounds promise an effective way to detoxify aromatic pollutants. This work reported a novel scenario to engineer our recently identified Type I EDO from Tcu3516 for a broader substrate scope and enhanced activity, which was based on 2,3-dihydroxybiphenyl (2,3-DHB)-liganded molecular docking of Tcu3516 and multiple sequence alignment with other 22 Type I EDOs. 11 non-conservative residues of Tcu3516 within 6 Å distance to the 2,3-DHB ligand center were selected as potential hotspots and subjected to semi-rational design using 6 catecholic analogues as substrates; the mutants V186L and V212N returned with progressive evolution in substrate scope and catalytic activity.

In both eukarya and bacteria, the addition of Cys to dehydroalanine (Dha) and dehydrobutyrine (Dhb) occurs in various biological processes. In bacteria, intramolecular thia-Michael addition catalyzed by lanthipeptide cyclases (LanC) proteins or protein domains gives rise to a class of natural products called lanthipeptides. In eukarya, dehydroamino acids in signaling proteins are introduced by effector proteins produced by pathogens like to dysregulate host defense mechanisms.

Siderophores produced via nonribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) pathways serve as critical virulence factors for many pathogenic bacteria. Improved knowledge of siderophore biosynthesis guides the development of inhibitors, vaccines, and other therapeutic strategies. Fimsbactin A is a mixed ligand siderophore derived from human pathogenic that contains phenolate-oxazoline, catechol, and hydroxamate metal chelating groups branching from a central l-Ser tetrahedral unit via amide and ester linkages.

Three mononuclear, dinuclear and one-dimensional dysprosium(III) complexes based on 3-azotriazolyl-2,6-dihydroxybenzoic acid (HATB) of [Dy(HATB)]·3HO (1), [Dy(HATB)(HDHB)(HO)]·2CHCN·5HO (2), and [Dy(HATB)(DCB)(DMF)(HO)]·4DMF (3) were synthesized and structurally characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction (HDHB = 2,6-dihydroxybenzoic acid, HDCB = 1,4-dicarboxybenzene). Complex 1 was used as a precursor to synthesize complexes 2 and 3, and 2 was further used to synthesize 3. Complex 1 is a mononuclear complex, in which the Dy(III) ion is in a nine-coordinated structure surrounded by three tridentate chelate HATB ligands.
