In the centrosymmetric title compound, [Co(C(7)H(4)NO(4))(2)(C(12)H(9)N(5))(2)(H(2)O)(2)]·2H(2)O, the Co(II) atom, located on an inversion center, is coordinated by two N atoms [Co-N = 2.155 (3) Å] and four O atoms [Co-O = 2.099 (2)-2.117 (3) Å] in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. Inter-molecular N-H⋯O, O-H⋯N and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the components into a three-dimensional supramolecular framework.

Single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SCSC) transformations provide more avenues for phase transitions, which have piqued great interest in crystal engineering. In this work, a 3D Co(II)-based coordination polymer (CP), (1), (where (btec) = 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylate) undergoes SCSC transition upon heating at 180 °C to afford an anhydrous phase (1'). Room-temperature water-vapour induced semi-reversible SCSC transformation of 1' involves condensation of two water molecules coordinating to the metal cluster, yielding a new framework (2).

Single crystals of three novel transition-metal oxalates, dirubidium di-aqua-dioxalatocobalt(II) dihydrate or dirubidium cobalt(II) bis-(oxalate) tetra-hydrate, Rb[Co(CO)(HO)]·2HO, (I), -poly[dirubidium [[di-chlorido-cobalt(II)]-μ-oxalato]] or dirubidium cobalt(II) dichloride oxalate, {Rb[CoCl(CO)]} , (II), and poly[dipotassium [tri-μ-oxalato-copper(II)dilithium] dihydrate] or dipotassium dilithium copper(II) tris-(oxalate) dihydrate, {K[LiCu(CO)]·2HO} , (III), have been grown under hydro-thermal conditions and their crystal structures determined using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The structure of (I) exhibits isolated octa-hedral [Co(CO)(HO)] units, whereas (II) consists of chains of Co ions bridged by bidentate oxalato ligands and (III) displays a novel tri-periodic network of Li and Cu ions linked by oxalato bridging ligands.

Hexa-aqua-nickel(II) bis-(3-carb-oxy-4-hy-droxy-benzene-sulfonate) dihydrate, [Ni(HO)][CH(COH)(OH)SO]·2HO, (I), crystallizes in the triclinic space group with the nickel(II) aqua complexes on centers of inversion. The carboxyl-ate group is protonated and neither it nor the sulfonate group is involved in direct coordination to the metal ions. The structure consists of alternating layers of inorganic cations and organic anions linked by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds that also include non-coordinated water mol-ecules of crystallization.

Efficient adsorptive removal of Cobalt(II) ions from water by dicalcium phosphate dihydrate.

Department of Environmental Engineering, Pusan National University 2, Busandaehak-ro 63beon-gil, Geumjeong-gu, Busan, 46241, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Although the radionuclide Co is widely used, its presence in various effluents demands its removal to preclude environmental pollution and detrimental effects on human health. This study investigated the batch adsorption performance of a potential cobalt adsorbent, dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD), in immobilizing Co from water. The influences of solution pH, contact time, initial concentration, and competing cations were examined and discussed.

By the solvothermal reactions of 2,5-bis(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)terephthalic acid (HL) with transition-metal ions, two novel polymeric complexes, namely, poly[diaqua[μ-2,5-bis(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)terephthalato]cobalt(II)], [Co(CHNO)(HO)], (1), and poly[[diaqua[μ-2,5-bis(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)terephthalato]nickel(II)] dihydrate], {[Ni(CHNO)(HO)]·2HO}, (2), were isolated. Both polymers have been characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The complexes have similar two-dimensional layered structures and coordination modes.
