In the polymeric title compound, {[Cd(C(8)H(12)N(6))(H(2)O)(4)]SO(4)}(n), the Cd(II) atom is located on an inversion center and coordinated by four water mol-ecules and two 1,4-bis-(1,2,4-triazol-yl)butane ligands in a distorted CdO(4)N(2) octa-hedral geometry. The 1,4-bis-(1,2,4-triazol-yl)butane ligand is centrosymmetric, the mid-point of the central C-C bond being located on an inversion center. It links adjacent water-coordinated metal atoms into polymeric chains running along the c axis. Adjacent chains are linked by O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds. The S atom of the sulfate anion is located on a twofold rotation axis, thus the sulfate anion is equally disordered over two sites. The sulfate anion links with the polymeric chains via O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, generating a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.

Sulfate and sulfonate compounds are extensively used as anionic surfactants in personal care products (PCPs), which might pose adverse potential to human health. However, available research mostly identified certain subsets of sulfated and sulfonated surfactants based on target analysis. In this study, we developed a comprehensive nontarget strategy for identification of sulfated and sulfonated surfactants in PCPs using UHPLCHRMS supplemented by an in-lab R script based on characteristic fragment ions and sulfur isotope patterns.

Adsorption and Bulk Assembly of Quaternized Hydroxyethylcellulose-Anionic Surfactant Complexes on Negatively Charged Substrates.

Polymers (Basel)

January 2025

Departamento de Química Física, Facultad de Ciencias Químicas, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Ciudad Universitaria, Plaza de la Ciencias s/n, 28040 Madrid, Spain.

This study examines the adsorption and bulk assembly behaviour of quaternized hydroxyethylcellulose ethoxylate (QHECE)-sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) complexes on negatively charged substrates. Due to its quaternized structure, QHECE, which is used in several industries, including cosmetics, exhibits enhanced electrostatic interactions. The phase behaviour and adsorption mechanisms of QHECE-SDS complexes are investigated using model substrates that mimic the wettability and surface charge of damaged hair fibres.

Contaminants in the water environment of different pyrite mines have varying characteristics due to different geological origins. Sulfur isotope (δS) is an effective tool to reveal the mechanism of water environment contamination, but no investigations have yet analyzed the characteristics and environmental significance of the δS in the water environment of different pyrite mines. This study involved a field investigation of four typical pyrite mines in China (representing volcanic, skarn, sedimentary-metamorphic, and coal-deposited types) and the analysis of the hydrochemistry of aqueous samples and the δS of both pyrite and dissolved sulfates.

Some marine and extremophilic microorganisms are capable of synthesizing sulfated polysaccharides with a unique structure. A number of studies indicate significant biological properties of individual sulfated polysaccharides, such as antiproliferative activity, which makes them a promising area for further research. In this study, the capsular polysaccharide (CPS) was obtained from the bacterium KMM 1449, isolated from a marine sediment sample collected along the shore of the Sea of Japan.
