In the centrosymmetric binuclear title compound, [Pb(2)(N(3))(2)(NCS)(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(4)], the N-donor atoms of one N-heterocycle and the N-donor atom of a thio-cyanate anion along with the sterically active lone-pair electrons comprise an approximate square; a plane through three atoms of this square is twisted slightly with respect to the square made up of the other four atoms (two from the other N-heterocycle and one each from the bridging azide anions) at a dihedral angle of 18.7 (1)°. The Pb(II) atom is in a Ψ-square-anti-prismaic coordination.

Selective removal of the nitrogen atom from an aromatic -heterocycle, such as pyridine, is of significant interest and importance, yet it remains highly challenging. Here, we report an unprecedented denitrogenative ring-contraction reaction of pyridines at a dititanium hydride framework, yielding cyclopentadienyl and nitride species under mild conditions. The reaction of pyridine with a dititanium tetrahydride complex () bearing rigid acridane-based PNP-pincer ligands at room temperature produced a cyclopentadienyl/nitride complex (), in which the two Ti atoms are bridged by a nitride atom and one Ti atom is bonded to a cyclopentadienyl group formed by pyridine denitrogenation and ring-contraction.

The incorporation of nitrogen atoms into cyclic compounds is essential for terrestrial life; nitrogen-containing (N-)heterocycles make up DNA and RNA nucleobases, several amino acids, B vitamins, porphyrins, and other components of biomolecules. The discovery of these molecules on meteorites with non-terrestrial isotopic abundances supports the hypothesis of exogenous delivery of prebiotic material to early Earth; however, there has been no detection of these species in interstellar environments, indicating that there is a need for greater knowledge of their astrochemical formation and destruction pathways. Here, we present results of simulations of gas-phase pyrrole and pyridine formation from an nanoreactor, a first-principles molecular dynamics simulation method that accelerates reaction discovery by applying non-equilibrium forces that are agnostic to individual reaction coordinates.

Precise Regulation on the Bond Dissociation Energy of Exocyclic C-N Bonds in Various N-Heterocycle Electron Donors via Machine Learning.

Heterocycles with saturated N atoms (HetSNs) are widely used electron donors in organic light-emitting diode (OLED) materials. Their relatively low bond dissociation energy (BDE) of exocyclic C-N bonds has been closely related to material intrinsic stability and even device lifetime. Thus, it is imperative to realize fast prediction and precise regulation of those C-N BDEs, which demands a deep understanding of the relationship between the molecular structure and BDE.

The acid solution is widely used in chemical cleaning, oil well acidifying, and other fields, which also brings the problem of metal corrosion that cannot be underestimated. However, adding an inhibitor is one of the most convenient and effective ways to slow down metal corrosion. N-heterocyclic compounds with high stability and durability, in line with the strategy of sustainable development, have been widely studied in an acidic environment.

Selective C-H bond activation is one of the most challenging topics for organic reactions. The difficulties arise not only from the high C-H bond dissociation enthalpies but also the existence of multiple equivalent/quasi-equivalent reaction sites in organic molecules. Here, we successfully achieve the selective activation of four quasi-equivalent C-H bonds in a specially designed nitrogen-containing polycyclic hydrocarbon (N-PH).
