An enrichment technique was used to isolate 11 di-, tri-, and tetra microsatellites for the parasitic fly Philornis downsi (Diptera: Muscidae). These loci were polymerase chain reaction amplified in singleplexes or two-plexes for P. downsi. The loci showed low to moderate polymorphism, exhibited between three and four alleles, and observed heterozygosity ranged from 0.05 to 0.86. These new markers will be useful for population-level and paternity analyses and will provide valuable information about the ecology of this high-impact parasite of vulnerable bird species.

Objectives: SOX10 is crucially implicated in various cancer, yet the regulatory role in pancreatic cancer (PC) remains enigmatic. Underlying molecular mechanisms of SOX10 in PC were explored in our study.
Methods: Relationships between SOX10 and immune landscape were estimated using bioinformatic approaches.

Background: Despite the rapid advancement of high-throughput sequencing, simple sequence repeats (SSRs) remain indispensable molecular markers for various applied and research tasks owing to their cost-effectiveness and ease of use. However, existing SSR markers cannot meet the growing demand for research on lotus (Nelumbo Adans.) given their scarcity and weak connections to the lotus genome.

The global spread of the novel coronavirus disease 2019, caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus, impacts individuals of all age groups, including lactating women and children. Concerns have been raised regarding the potential transmission of SARS-CoV-2 from mother to child, following the discovery of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in human milk. Therefore, this study aims to investigate whether the Omicron novel coronavirus variants are transmitted through human milk.

Objective: Hirudin has shown potential in promoting angiogenesis and providing neuroprotection in ischemic stroke; however, its therapeutic role in promoting cerebrovascular angiogenesis remains unclear. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether hirudin exerts neuroprotective effects by promoting angiogenesis through the regulation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.
Methods: An in vitro model of glucose and oxygen deprivation/reperfusion (OGD/R) was established using rat brain microvascular endothelial cells (BMECs).

Research Question: Are the combined genotypes and haplotypes of vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphisms (FokI, ApaI and TaqI) associated with susceptibility to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and metabolic features of the disease?
Design: This case-control study included 46 women with PCOS and 48 controls. Genotypes of the VDR gene were determined using the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism method. Waist circumference, and parameters of lipid and glucose metabolism were evaluated in all women.
