In the title compound, {[Zn(C(12)H(8)O(4))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)]·0.5H(2)O}(n), each Zn(II) atom is six-coordinated by two N atoms from one 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), three carboxyl-ate O atoms from two different L ligands [H(2)L = 3,3'-(p-phenyl-ene)diacrylic acid] and one water mol-ecule in a distorted octa-hedral environment. The two L dianions are situated across inversion centres and bridge neighbouring Zn(II) centres, yielding a chain propagating parallel to [100]. O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the coordinated water molecule, the solvent water molecule (half-occupied) and the carboxylate O atoms further stabilize the structure.

Enhancing oil recovery in sandstone reservoirs, particularly through smart water flooding, is an appealing area of research that has been thoroughly documented. However, few studies have examined the formation of water-in-heavy oil emulsion because of the incompatibility between the injected water-folded ions, clay particles, and heavy fraction in the oil phase. In this study, we investigated the synergistic roles of asphaltene and clay in the smart water flooding process using a novel experimental approach.

Insulin bound with ligand molecules can improve its bioavailability in oral formulations. In this work, the interactions between insulin and bile acids of taurocholic acid (TCA) and glycocholic acid (GCA) are characterized using different mass spectrometry (MS) methods. Electrospray (ESI)-MS analysis revealed that GCA and TCA could interact with insulin individually or together through non-covalent bonds, and the products included mGCA-insulin, nTCA-insulin, and mGCA-nTCA-insulin complexes.

Pancreatic cancer (PCa) is one of the most devastating cancers with few clinical signs and no truly effective therapy. In recent years, our team has demonstrated that nucleolin antagonists such as N6L could be a therapeutic alternative for this disease. In order to study a possible clinic development of N6L (multivalent pseudopeptide), we undertook to study the effect of combination of N6L with chemotherapies classically used for PCa on the survival of pancreatic cancer cells.

Investigating how the size of carbon support pores influences the three-phase interface of platinum (Pt) particles in fuel cells is essential for enhancing catalyst utilization. This study employed molecular dynamics simulations and density functional theory calculation to examine the effects of mesoporous carbon support size, specifically its pore diameter, on Nafion ionomer distribution, as well as on proton and gas/liquid transport channels, and the utilization of Pt active sites. The findings show that when Pt particles are located within the pores of carbon support (Pt/PC), there is a significant enhancement in the spatial distribution of Nafion ionomer, along with a reduction in encapsulation around the Pt particles, compared to when Pt particles are positioned on the surface or in excessively large pores of the carbon support.
