In the title compound, {[Ag(C(14)H(10)N(4)O)(2)]AsF(6)}(n), the Ag(I) ion is coordinated by two N atoms from two different pyridyl rings and one N atom from one carbonitrile group of three different N'-(4-cyano-benzyl-idene)nicotinohydrazide ligands in a distorted T-shaped geometry. The Ag-N(carbonitrile) bond distance is significant longer than those of Ag-N(pyrid-yl). The bond angles around the Ag(I) atom are also not in line with those in an ideal T-shaped geometry. One type of ligand acts as the bridge that connects Ag(I) atoms into chains along [01]. These chains are linked to each other via N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and Ag⋯O inter-actions with an Ag⋯O separation of 2.869 (2) Å. In addition, the [AsF(6)](-) counter-anions are linked to the hydrazone groups through N-H⋯F hydrogen bonds. Four of the F atoms of the [AsF(6)](-) anion are disordered over two sets of sites with occupancies of 0.732 (9) and 0.268 (9).

ConspectusNickel pincer systems have recently attracted much attention for applications in various organometallic reactions and catalysis involving small molecule activation. Their exploration is in part motivated by the presence of nickel in natural systems for efficient catalysis. Among such systems, the nickel-containing metalloenzyme carbon monoxide dehydrogenase (CODH) efficiently and reversibly converts CO to CO at its active site.

Revisiting the Most Stable Structures of the Benzene Dimer.

The benzene dimer (BD) is an archetypal model of π∙∙∙π and C-H∙∙∙π noncovalent interactions as they occur in its cofacial and perpendicular arrangements, respectively. The enthalpic stabilization of the related BD structures has been debated for a long time and is revisited here. The revisit is based on results of computations that apply the coupled-cluster theory with singles, doubles and perturbative triples [CCSD(T)] together with large basis sets and extrapolate results to the complete basis set (CBS) limit in order to accurately characterize the three most important stationary points of the intermolecular interaction energy (Δ) surface of the BD, which correspond to the tilted T-shaped (TT), fully symmetric T-shaped (FT) and slipped-parallel (SP) structures.

Laser-induced matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization post-ionization (MALDI-2) could improve the MALDI sensitivity of biological metabolites by over 1 order of magnitude. Herein, we demonstrate that MALDI-2 sensitivity can be further enhanced with reflecting post-ionization laser that multiplies the intersection times between laser and MALDI plume. This method, which we named MALDI-2+, typically brought over 2 times sensitivity improvement from conventional MALDI-2.

Vesicants are chemical warfare agents (CWAs) capable of causing severe skin damage and systemic toxicity. Melatonin, known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, can mitigate the effects of these agents. Self-nano-emulsifying drug delivery systems (SNEDDS) containing a high melatonin concentration (5 %, 50 mg/g) were optimized using a quality-by-design approach from biocompatible, non-irritant excipients with a particle size of about 100 nm.

Photoionization can initiate structural reorganization of molecular matter and drive formation of new chemical bonds. Here, we used time-resolved extreme ultraviolet (EUV) pump - EUV probe Coulomb explosion imaging of carbon dioxide dimer ion dynamics, that combined with ab initio molecular dynamics simulations, revealed unexpected asymmetric structural rearrangement. We show that ionization by the pump pulse induces rearrangement from the slipped-parallel (C) geometry of the neutral dimer towards a T-shaped (C) structure on the ~100 fs timescale, although the most stable slipped-parallel (C) structure of the ionic dimer.
