The centrosymmetric binuclear title complex, [Mn(2)(C(8)H(5)NO(5))(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(4)]·2H(2)O, was obtained by the reaction of manganese chloride with 5-carb-oxy-1-carboxy-methyl-2-oxidopyridinium and 1,10-phenanthroline. The Mn(II) atom is coordinated by two N atoms from the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand, two O atoms from two 5-carboxyl-ato-1-carboxyl-atomethyl-2-oxidopyridinium ligands and two water mol-ecules, leading to a distorted octahedral MnN(2)O(4) environment. Inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link neighbouring mol-ecules into a layer structure parallel to (001).

The manganese title complex, [Mn(CHNO)(CHNO)(HO)]·2HO, is one of the first 4-amino 3-nitro-benzoic acid (4 A3NBA) monoligand metal complexes to be synthesized. It crystallizes in the centrosymmetric monoclinic space group 2/ with the complex mol-ecules located on inversion centers. Four 4 A3NBA ligand mol-ecules are monodentately coordinated by the Mn ion through the carb-oxy-lic oxygen atoms while the other two positions of the inner coordination sphere are occupied by water mol-ecules, giving rise to a distorted octa-hedron, and two water mol-ecules are in the outer coordination sphere.

The reaction of CuCl with 1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5,6-hexa-netetrone and 2,2'-bi-pyridine (bipy) in ethanol gave crystals of the corresponding bimetallic complex, [Cu(CHO)Cl(CHN)]·2HO. The mol-ecule is centrosymmetric with each Cu ion coordinated to two oxygen atoms from the tetronediate, two nitro-gen atoms from a bipy ligand and one coordinated chloride ion. A water mol-ecule of crystallization forms hydrogen bonds to the chloride ions, linking the mol-ecules into a chain parallel to the -face diagonal.

The crystal structure of anhydrous 2,5-dhy-droxy-terephthalic acid, CHO, was solved and refined using laboratory X-ray powder diffraction data, and optimized using density functional techniques. The published structure of 2,5-di-hydroxy-terephthalic acid dihydrate was also optimized. The carb-oxy-lic acid groups form strong hydrogen bonds, which form centrosymmetric rings with graph set (8).

Reaction of Zn(ClO)·6HO with cyclam (cyclam = 1,4,8,11-tetra-aza-cyclo-tetra-decane, CHN) and NaSbS in an aceto-nitrile/water mixture led to the formation of crystals of the title compound, [Zn(SbS)(CHN)](SbS)·2CHCN·2HO or [(Zn-cyclam)(SbS)](HO)(aceto-nitrile). The set-up of the crystal structure is similar to that of [(Zn-cyclam)(SbS)]8HO reported recently [Danker (2021 ▸). .
