In the title compound, [Co(C(7)H(2)N(2)O(7))(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)], the Co(II) atom is coordinated by four N atoms from two 2,2'-bipyridine ligands and two O atoms from a 3,5-dinitro-2-oxidobenzoate ligand, displaying a distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry. The crystal structure involves C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the 2,2'-bipyridine ligands and the carboxyl-ate and NO(2) groups of the 3,5-dinitro-2-oxidobenzoate ligand.

A mononuclear cadmium(II) complex of formula [Cd(5,5'-dmbipy)(OAc)]·2HO (5,5'-dmbipy = 5,5'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine and OAc = acetato ligand) has been synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, UV-Vis, H-NMR, elemental analysis and single-crystal X-ray structure analysis. The molecular structure of the complex shows a distorted tetragonal antiprism CdNO coordination geometry around the cadmium atom, resulting in coordination by four nitrogen atoms from two 5,5'-dmbipy ligands and four oxygen atoms from two acetate anions. The interaction of this complex to FS-DNA (fish sperm DNA) has also been studied by electronic absorption, fluorescence and gel electrophoresis techniques.

In this paper, Eu3+ beta-diketone Complexes with the two ligands 1-(2-naphthoyl)-3, 3, 3-trifluoroacetonate (TFNB) and 2'2-bipyridine (bpy) have been synthesized. Furthermore, we reported a systematical study of the co-fluorescence effect of Eu(TFNB)3bpy doped with inert rare earth ions (La3+, Gd3+ and Y3+) and luminescence ion Tb3+. The co-luminescence effect can be found by studying the luminescence spectra of the doped complexes, which means that the existence of the other rare earth ions (La3+, Y3+, Gd3+ and Tb3+) can enhance the luminescence intensity of the central Eu3+, which may be due to the intramolecular energy transfer between rare earth ions and Eu3+.
