Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined the triplet transitions in various light-emitting materials like rose bengal and several iridium compounds using advanced spectroscopy techniques.
  • - The samples were excited using a 355 nm laser, leading to efficient movement from their singlet to triplet excited states, revealing specific absorption bands corresponding to these transitions.
  • - Distinct absorption bands were identified for each material, with rose bengal showing a band at 9400 cm, while iridium compounds showed bands at around 7500-7700 cm, indicating different contributions from metal-to-ligand charge transfer mechanisms.

With the rapid advances in wearable electronics, the research on carbon-based and/or organic materials and devices has become increasingly important, owing to their advantages in terms of cost, weight, and mechanical deformability. Here, we report an effective material and device design for an integrative wearable cardiac monitor based on carbon nanotube (CNT) electronics and voltage-dependent color-tunable organic light-emitting diodes (CTOLEDs). A p-MOS inverter based on four CNT transistors allows high amplification and thereby successful acquisition of the electrocardiogram (ECG) signals.

Adamantane-based wide-bandgap host material: blue electrophosphorescence with high efficiency and very high brightness.

Chemistry

May 2015

Hubei Collaborative Innovation Center for Advanced Organic Chemical Materials, Hubei Key Lab on Organic and Polymeric Optoelectronic Materials, Department of Chemistry, Wuhan University, Wuhan 430072 (P. R. China).

An adamantane-based host material, namely, 4-{3-[4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)phenyl]adamantan-1-yl}benzonitrile (CzCN-Ad), was prepared by linking an electron-donating carbazole unit and an electron-accepting benzonitrile moiety through an adamantane bridge. In this approach, two functional groups were attached to tetrahedral points of adamantane to construct an "sp(3)" topological configuration. This design strategy endows the host material with a high triplet energy of 3.
