AI Article Synopsis

  • The compound features two Fe(II) atoms, two naphthalene-1,4-dicarboxylate anions, and two 4,4'-bipyridine ligands in its asymmetric unit.
  • Each Fe(II) atom is surrounded by four oxygen atoms from the naphthalene anions and two nitrogen atoms from the bipyridine ligands, forming a distorted octahedral structure.
  • The Fe(II) atoms are linked through carboxylate groups to create dimers, which form chains that are further organized into layers and interconnected into a three-dimensional network by the bipyridine ligands.

Article Abstract

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Fe(C(12)H(6)O(4))(C(10)H(8)N(2))], consists of two independent Fe(II) atoms, two naphthalene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate anions and two 4,4'-bipyridine ligands. The Fe(II) atoms are each coordinated by four O atoms of the naphthalene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate anions and two N atoms of the 4,4'-bipyridine ligands within a distorted octa-hedron. Two Fe(II) atoms are bridged via the carboxyl-ate groups of two symmetry-related anions into dimers, which are further connected into chains. These chains are linked by additional anions into layers that are finally connected by the 4,4'-bipyridine ligands into a three-dimensional coordination network.

The asymmetric Schiff base prepared from ethylenediamine and pyridine-2-carboxaldehyde reacts with Fe(ClO)·6HO to form the Fe(II) complex [FeL](ClO) with L = ,-diethyl-'-(pyridin-2-yl)methylene)ethane-1,2-diamine, where the Fe(III) starting material has been unexpectedly reduced to Fe(II). This complex was characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectra, single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction measurements, variable temperature DC magnetic measurement and room temperature Mössbauer spectroscopy. The asymmetric ligand L coordinates in a tridentate fashion through its pyridyl, azomethine and amino nitrogen atoms, generating a distorted octahedral geometry around the central metal ion.

Solution equilibrium and redox properties of metal complexes with 2-formylpyridine guanylhydrazone derivatives: Effect of morpholine and piperazine substitutions.

Schiff bases derived from aminoguanidine are extensively investigated for their structural versatility. The tridentate 2-formylpyridine guanylhydrazones act as analogues of 2-formyl or 2-acetylpyridine thiosemicarbazones, where the thioamide unit is replaced by the guanidyl group. Six derivatives of 2-formylpyridine guanylhydrazone were synthesized and their proton dissociation and complex formation processes with Cu(II), Fe(II) and Fe(III) ions were studied using pH-potentiometry, UV-visible, NMR and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopic methods.

In our effort to establish a direct synthetic approach for bis(dihydridoborate) complexes of first-row transition metals, we have investigated the reactivity of [Cp*Fe(dppe)Cl] (dppe =1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane) with Na[BHL] (L =2-mercaptopyridine (mp) and 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (mbz)) that led to the formation of iron(II) dihydridoborate complexes, [Cp*Fe{κ-S,H,H-(HBH(L))}] 1 a-b (L=mp (1 a) and L=mbz (1 b)). Further, in an attempt to isolate the bis(dihydridoborate) complex of iron by the insertion of borane into the κ-N,S-chelated iron complex, [(dppe)Fe{κ-N,S-(mp)}] (2), we have isolated and structurally characterized a rare example of dimeric iron bis(dihydridoborate) complex, [Fe{κ-S,H,H-(HBH(mp))}], ΛΔ/ΔΛ-3 as pair of enantiomers. Interestingly, these enantiomers ΛΔ/ΔΛ-3 have two trans-[Fe{κ-S,H,H-(HBH(mp))}] moieties bridged through sulfur atoms of 2-mercaptopyridinyl ligands, where the iron centres are hepta-coordinated.

In the hydrated title complex, [Fe(dpa)(N)]·HO (dpa is 2,2'-di-pyridyl-amine, CHN), the Fe ion is coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral manner by two neutral, chelating dpa ligands and two anionic, monodentate azide (N ) ions in a -configuration. Distortion results from different Fe-N bond lengths [2.1397 (13)-2.

Silicate impedes arsenic release and oxidation from ferrihydrite.

School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Guangdong University of Technology, Guangzhou 510006, PR China.

Silicate fertilization is a common farming practice and an effective method to mitigate arsenic (As) pollution in paddy. Investigating the interaction between silicate and ferrihydrite on As retention is key to comprehensively understand the mechanism of As sequestration by silicate fertilization. Our results indicated that the transformation of ferrihydrite into goethite and hematite was inversely proportional to Si/Fe ratios.
