In the title compound, [Cd(C(8)H(4)O(4))(C(36)H(44)N(4)O(4))]·C(8)H(6)O(4), the Cd(II) atom is six-coordinated by four N atoms from the macrocyclic ligand and two O atoms from a benzene-1,3-dicarboxyl-ate ligand. The complex mol-ecules are linked by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a one-dimensional chain structure along the b axis. The chains are further connected through N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the complex mol-ecule and an uncoordinated benzene-1,3-dicarboxylic acid mol-ecule, resulting in a two-dimensional supra-molecular network.

Two Gram-stain-negative, curved-rod-shaped, non-motile and aerobic bacteria W6 and I13 were isolated from marine sediment samples collected from Meishan Island located in the East China Sea. Catalase and oxidase activities and hydrolysis of Tween 40, 60 and 80 were positive for both strains, while nitrate reduction, indole production, methyl red reaction and HS production were negative. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA and genome sequences revealed that strains W6 and I13 formed distinct phylogenetic lineages within the genera and , respectively.

This paper describes a series of 12 9,10-dimethoxyanthracene derivatives functionalized with a range of electronically diverse ethynyl substituents at the 2 and 6 positions, aimed at tuning their optoelectronic properties and reactivity with singlet oxygen (O). Optical spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and density functional theory calculations reveal that the ethynyl groups decrease the HOMO-LUMO gaps in these acenes. Notably, bis(dimethylanilineethynyl) substituents increase the wavelength of absorbance onset by over 60 nm compared to 9,10-dimethoxyanthracene (DMA).
