Bis(2-amino-pyridine-κN)silver(I) nitrate.

Acta Crystallogr Sect E Struct Rep Online

Published: October 2008

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Ag(C(5)H(6)N(2))(2)]NO(3), consists of one and a half each of both cations and anions, the other halves being generated by crystallographic inversion centres. One of the Ag(I) atoms lies on an inversion center and one of the nitrate ions is disordered across an inversion center. Each Ag(I) atom is bicoordinated in a linear geometry by two N atoms from two 2-amino-pyridine ligands. In the crystal structure, the cations and anions are linked into a two-dimensional network parallel to (001) by N-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Background: Synthesis of organic@inorganic hNFs is achieved by the coordination of organic compounds containing amine, amide, and diol groups with bivalent metals. The use of bio-extracts containing these functional groups instead of expensive organic inputs such as DNA, enzymes, and protein creates advantages in terms of cost and applicability. In this study, the application potentials (antioxidant, antibacterial, anticancer, guaiacol, anionic, and cationic dye degradation) of hybrid (organic@inorganic) nanoflowers (hNFs) synthesized with Cu and snakeskin (SSS) were proposed.

Perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells (TSCs) are promising candidates for commercialization due to their outstanding power conversion efficiencies (PCEs). However, controlling the crystallization process and alleviating the phases/composition inhomogeneity represent a considerable challenge for perovskite layers grown on rough silicon substrates, ultimately limiting the efficiency and stability of TSC. Here, this study reports a "halide locking" strategy that simultaneously modulates the nucleation and crystal growth process of wide bandgap perovskites by introducing a multifunctional ammonium salt, thioacetylacetamide hydrochloride (TAACl), to bind with all types of cations and anions in the mixed halide perovskite precursor.

Optical Detection of Proteins Using Microgel-Stabilized Pickering Liquid Crystal-in-Water Emulsions.

Langmuir

January 2025

Department of Chemistry and Centre for Advanced Studies in Chemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh 160014, India.

Herein, we present a novel liquid crystal (LC)-based sensing platform utilizing microgel-stabilized Pickering LC droplets dispersed in water for simple and label-free detection of proteins in an aqueous environment. This could be achieved by tailoring the surface of 4-cyano-4'-pentylbiphenyl (5CB) LC droplets dispersed in aqueous medium through the interfacial adsorption of poly(-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) microgel particles, followed by the introduction of model surfactants, such as anionic sodium dodecyl sulfate and cationic dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide. These surfactant/microgel complex-coated LC droplets underwent a configurational transition from radial-to-bipolar under a polarized optical microscope, upon exposure to model proteins, namely bovine serum albumin and lysozyme.

Counterintuitive DNA destabilization by monovalent salt at high concentrations due to overcharging.

Nat Commun

January 2025

Hubei Key Laboratory of Cell Homeostasis, College of Life Sciences, Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, Wuhan University, Wuhan, China.

Monovalent salts are generally believed to stabilize DNA duplex by weakening inter-strand electrostatic repulsion. Unexpectedly, our force-induced hairpin unzipping experiments and thermal melting experiments show that LiCl, NaCl, KCl, RbCl, and CsCl at concentrations beyond ~1 M destabilize DNA, RNA, and RNA-DNA duplexes. The two types of experiments yield different changes in free energy during melting, while the results that high concentration monovalent salts destabilize duplexes are common.
