AI Article Synopsis

  • - The compound C(7)H(12)N(6)O·2H(2)O features a hydrazone fragment with a Z configuration that is stabilized by an internal hydrogen bond between amino groups.
  • - In the crystal structure, hydrazonamide molecules are linked through hydrogen bonds, creating continuous C(7) chains that align along the [010] direction.
  • - These chains are organized into sheets that lie parallel to the (01) plane, with water molecules interconnecting them to establish a 3D hydrogen-bonded network.

Article Abstract

In the title compound, C(7)H(12)N(6)O·2H(2)O, the Z configuration of the hydrazone fragment is stabilized by an intra-molecular N-H⋯N hydrogen bond involving one of the amino groups. In the crystal structure, the hydrazonamide mol-ecules are connected via inter-molecular N-H⋯O=C hydrogen bonds, forming C(7) chains running along [010]. The chains form sheets parallel to the (01). The chains are cross-linked by water mol-ecules to form a three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network.

This study explored a facile method for converting macadamia nutshells into bio-based nanomaterials, including cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) and lignin nanoparticles (LNPs), through deep eutectic solvent (DES) pretreatment coupled with a nanofabrication strategy. Comparisons of the physicochemical, morphological, and structural properties of the CNF and LNPs produced through acidic choline chloride/oxalic acid dihydrate (ACDES) and alkaline KCO/glycerol DES (ALDES) pretreatments were conducted using SEM, TEM, FTIR, XRD, TGA, GPC and 2D NMR. The CNFs obtained from ACDES pretreatment (ACCNFs) exhibited uniform and long filament-like structures with shorter whisker-like nanocrystals.

A collagen-based laboratory model to mimic sex-specific features of calcific aortic valve disease.

Acta Biomater

January 2025

Department of Mining and Materials Engineering, McGill University, 3610 Rue University, Montreal, QC H3A 0C5, Canada. Electronic address:

Calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD) shows in the deposition of calcium phosphates in the collagen-rich layer of the valve leaflets. This stiffens the leaflets and eventually leads to heart failure. Recent research suggests that CAVD follows sex-specific pathways: at the same severity of the disease, women tend to have fewer and less crystalline calcifications, and the phases of their calcifications are decidedly different than those of men; namely, dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD) - one of the mineral phases in CAVD - occurs almost exclusively in females.

A variety of phytochemicals from different plants are collected by bees into bee pollen granules. This research focused on evaluating the effects of lactic acid fermentation and enzymatic hydrolysis on the antibacterial activity of bee pollen and its interaction with antibiotics. There is limited knowledge regarding the interactions between treated bee pollen extracts and antibiotics, and this study contributes to the field by providing new insights into the antibacterial activity of pollen subjected to eight distinct treatment methods.

Supplying critical metals such as cobalt, lithium, and nickel, to achieve sustainable development goals will be one of the most important concerns in the coming decades. A significant challenge in this area is the separation of some similar elements, such as nickel and cobalt. This study proposes a novel and eco-friendly process to selectively recover cobalt from nickel and manganese.

Versatile and robust transparent polymer film with preprogrammed diffusion and bidirectional irreversible fluorescence for sequential information encryption.

J Colloid Interface Sci

January 2025

The materials currently available for information encryption often suffer from low transparency, poor mechanical strength, and a reliance on single decryption conditions, which limits their security and hence application potential. To address these challenges, we developed a transparent, mechanically robust polymer film inspired by the camouflage and communication strategies of the glass squid. In this film, 2,5-dihydroxyterephthalic acid (DHTA) and zinc acetate dihydrate are integrated into a crosslinked polyvinyl alcohol-glutaraldehyde (PVA-GA) matrix to achieve bidirectional irreversible fluorescence and sequential decryption.
