In the title coordination polymer, [Hg(2)Cl(4)(C(6)H(12)N(2))](n), each Hg(II) center within the chain is four-coordinated by one terminal Cl atom, two bridging μ(2)-Cl atoms, and one N-atom donor from a μ(2)-1,4-diaza-bicyclo-[2.2.2]octane (μ(2)-daco) ligand in a distorted tetra-hedral geometry. The daco ligand acts as an end-to-end bridging ligand and bridges adjacent Hg(II) centers, forming a chain running along [001]. Weak C-H⋯Cl hydrogen-bonding inter-actions link the chains into a three-dimensional network. Comparison of the structural differences with previous findings suggests that the space between the two N donors, as well as the skeletal rigidity in N-heterocyclic linear ligands, may play an important role in the construction of such supra-molecular networks.

In a systematic study, six pseudopolymorphic coordination polymers containing the ditopic 1,3-di(pyridin-4-yl)urea ligand (4bpu) constructed with d metal cations, possessing the formula {[M(4bpu)I]S} [(M = Zn, Cd and Hg), (S = MeOH or EtOH)], namely Zn-MeOH, Zn-EtOH, Cd-MeOH, Cd-EtOH, Hg- and Hg-EtOH were obtained. The title compounds were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis (SC-XRD), elemental analysis (CHN), FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). The diffraction studies show that these compounds are isostructural 1D zig-zag chain coordination polymers which is also confirmed using XPac 2.

Resveratrol-Based Carbamates as Selective Butyrylcholinesterase Inhibitors: Design, Synthesis, Computational Study and Biometal Complexation Capability.

Molecules

January 2025

Department of Organic Chemistry, Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, University of Zagreb, Trg Marka Marulića 19, HR-10 000 Zagreb, Croatia.

Considering our previous experience in the design of new cholinesterase inhibitors, especially resveratrol analogs, in this research, the basic stilbene skeleton was used as a structural unit for new carbamates designed as potentially highly selective butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) inhibitors with excellent absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and toxicity ADMET properties. The inhibitory activity of newly prepared carbamates - was tested toward the enzymes acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and BChE. In the tested group of compounds, the leading inhibitors were and , which achieved excellent selective inhibitory activity for BChE with IC values of 0.

Background: The evolving healthcare landscape emphasizes the need for health systems to adapt to growing complexities, with new models of care enabling healthcare providers to optimize their scope of practice and coordination of care. Despite increasing interest in advanced practice, confusion persists regarding the roles and scopes of practice of healthcare providers, exacerbated by variations in regulations and titles. We sought to clarify the differences between specialized healthcare professionals, practitioners, and clinical specialists; to describe their roles; and to propose initiatives aimed at supporting the implementation of advanced practice within a university hospital.

In 2016, ahead of the US presidential election, the National Academy of Medicine launched the strategic initiative Vital Directions for Health and Health Care-a series of papers on critical areas of US health care written by the nation's experts and intended to provide nonpartisan guidance to the incoming administration. The National Academy of Medicine continued the initiative in 2021. The current series, titled Vital Directions for Health and Health Care: Priorities for 2025, contains six articles on priority areas in US health and medicine that demand urgent attention.

Measuring the visual environment of children and young people at risk of myopia: a scoping review.

Graefes Arch Clin Exp Ophthalmol

January 2025

Radiation, Chemicals, Climate and Environmental Hazards Directorate, UK Health Security Agency, Didcot, UK.

Purpose: Myopia (short-sightedness) is an emerging WHO priority eye disease. Rise in prevalence and severity are driven by changes in lifestyle and environment of children and young people (CYP), including less time spent in bright daylight and more time spent on near-vision activities. We aimed to systematically map the literature describing direct, objective measurements of the visual environment of CYP.
