The dinuclear title mol-ecule, [Au(2)Fe(C(10)H(11)N(2)O(3)S)(2)(C(17)H(14)P)(2)]·2CHCl(3), has crystallographic twofold symmetry with the Fe atom (bonded to two η(5)-cyclo-penta-dienyl rings) situated on the rotation axis. The Au atom exists within a linear geometry defined by an S,P-donor set with a deviation from linearity [S-Au-P = 176.86 (6)°] due to the close approach of the thio-carbamate O atom [Au⋯O = 3.108 (5) Å]. The mol-ecule has a U-shaped geometry which facilitates the formation of an intra-molecular Au⋯Au inter-action [3.0231 (5) Å]. In the crystal, the presence of C-H⋯O(nitro) contacts leads to the formation of layers with substantial voids; these are occupied by the solvent mol-ecules of crystallization, which are held in place by C-H⋯S contacts.

2-Deoxy-β-glycosides are essential components of natural products and pharmaceuticals; however, the corresponding 2-deoxy-β-glycosidic bonds are challenging to chemically construct. Herein, we describe an efficient catalytic protocol for synthesizing 2-deoxy-β-glycosides via either IPrAuNTf-catalyzed activation of a unique 1,2--positioned C2--propargyl xanthate (OSPX) leaving group or (PhO)PAuNTf-catalyzed activation of a 1,2--C2--alkynylbenzoate (OABz) substituent of the corresponding thioglycosides. These activation processes trigger 1,2-alkyl/arylthio-migration glycosylation, enabling the synthesis of structurally diverse 2-deoxy-β-glycosides under mild reaction conditions.

Effective delivery and controlled release of metallo-prodrugs with sustained activation and rapid response feed the needs of precise medicine in metal chemotherapeutics. However, gold-based anticancer drugs often suffer from detoxification binding and extracellular transfer by sulfur-containing peptides. To address this challenge, we integrate a thiol-activated prodrug strategy of newly prepared hypercoordinated carbon-centered gold(I) clusters (HCGCs) with their photosensitization character to augment the mitochondrial release of Au(I) in tumors.

Stimulus-responsive molecular materials are highly desirable because of the wide range of their potential applications. In particular, switching of physical properties opens application pathways for molecular materials as sensors or actuators. Property switching in solids can be achieved by inducing single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SCSC) phase transitions.

A series of eight gold(I) N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes [Au(IMes)(Ln)] based on 1,3-bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)imidazole-2-ylidene (IMes) and 7-azaindole derivatives (HLn), where n = 1-8 for HL1 = 5-fluoro-7-azaindole, HL2 = 5-bromo-7-azaindole, HL3 = 3-chloro-7-azaindole, HL4 = 3-iodo-7-azaindole, HL5 = 5-bromo-3-chloro-7-azaindole, HL6 = 5-bromo-3-iodo-7-azaindole, HL7 = 4-chloro-2-methyl-7-azaindole and HL8 = 7-azaindole, was prepared, characterised and studied for their in vitro anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory effects. The complexes showed significant cytotoxicity on human ovarian cancer cell lines (A2780, IC ≈ 8-19 μM and A2780R, IC ≈ 8-19 μM) and lowered toxicity in normal HaCat and MRC-5 cells. Cellular effects of the selected complexes 1 and 7 were evaluated in A2780 cells using flow cytometry.

Neutral mesoionic carbenes (MICs) based on a 1,2,3-triazole core have had a strong impact on various branches of chemistry such as homogeneous catalysis, electrocatalysis, and photochemistry/photophysics. We present here the first general synthesis of anionic mesoionic carbenes (anMICs) based on a 1,2,3-triazole core and a borate backbone. The free anMIC is stable in solution under an inert atmosphere at low temperatures, and can be stored for several weeks.
